An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. -- Elbert Hubbard
"The Patriot Post"
"This gave me occasion to observe, that when Men are employ'd they are best contented. For on the Days they work'd they were good-natur'd and chearful; and with the consciousness of having done a good Days work they spent the Evenings jollily; but on the idle Days they were mutinous and quarrelsome, finding fault with their Pork, the Bread, and in continual ill-humour." -- Benjamin Franklin
"Taxes should be continued by annual or biennial reenactments, because a constant hold, by the nation, of the strings of the public purse is a salutary restraint from which an honest government ought not wish, nor a corrupt one to be permitted,to be free." -- Thomas Jefferson
"The e-mail bag"
I believe the democrats have suddenly developed a keen sense of morality. John Edwards has been banned from making a speech at the democratic convention for having an affair and lying about it. -- In his place, Bill Clinton will be speaking.

As we sail through life, don't avoid rough waters, sail on because calm waters won't make a skillful sailor. -- Unknown
"The Patriot Post"
"If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy." --- Thomas Jefferson
"I have always believed that America is strongest and freest and happiest when it is truest to the wisdom of its Founders. In Federalist 45, James Madison wrote that 'The powers delegated by the Constitution to the Federal Government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State Government are numerous and indefinite.' Or to put it another way, 'We the People.' As long as we remember these words---'We the People' ---and make them our guide, so long as we remember that America has always drawn its inspiration from the people and has always been governed best when governed most by those governments closest to the people, America will remain strong and free, the envy of the world." ---Ronald Reagan

The Oregon Constitution says voters have the final say over any laws passed by the state legislature. The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, however, says they don't.

It is not who is right, but what is right, that is of importance. -- Thomas H. Huxley
"The Patriot Post"
"The exclamation of a journalist at the UNITY minority news media gathering this weekend sums up the star-struck reverence that fuels the Obama phenomenon: 'He touched me!' And yet, he's sooo 'down to earth.' Hurtling toward a government of the stupid, by the stupid, for the stupid we go." --- Michelle Malkin
"Whatever enables us to go to war, secures our peace." -- Thomas Jefferson
"In a speech [recently], Barack Obama said he's distantly related to the famous 19th century gunslinger Wild Bill Hickok. After hearing this, John McCain said, 'Big deal, I went to high school with him'." --- Conan O'Brien

Go for singles rather than home runs. They're a lot easier to hit. Besides, every four singles equals a run…and the bases are still loaded! -- Eric Harvey
"The Patriot Post"
"The prosperity of commerce is now perceived and acknowledged by all enlightened statesmen to be the most useful as well as the most productive source of national wealth." --- Alexander Hamilton
"Commenting on Senator Obama's suggestion that we all go out and get our cars tuned up, I have a couple questions: Senator, do you know what a tune up is? Have you ever been in an auto parts store? If politicians are in the business of giving out good advice they may want to practice what they preach." ---USAF Academy, Colorado
"When World War II ended, the United States had the only undamaged industrialpower in the world. Our military might was at its peak, and we alone had the ultimate weapon, the nuclear weapon, with the unquestioned ability to deliver it anywhere in the world. If we had sought world domination then, who could have opposed us? But the United States followed a different course, one unique in all the history of mankind. We used our power and wealth to rebuild the war-ravished economies of the world, including those of the nations who had been our enemies. May I say, there is absolutely no substance to charges that the United States is guilty of imperialism or attempts to impose its will on other countries, by use of force." --- Ronald Reagan
And, there is "more" or is it "less"?
"I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions." - Barack Obama, July 29, 2008
