ConservativeChristianRepublican-Report - 20091216

Motivational-Inspirational-Historical-Educational-Political-Enjoyable

Promoting "God's Holy Values and American Freedoms"!

"My Comments"

May I offer an apology for failing to get the ConservativeChristianRepublican-Report out most of last week as well as this week, but I developed a health problem which first showed up on Tuesday. After some extreme high blood pressure readings, and calling my regular physician in the late afternoon, my personal doctor’s nurse instructed me to go to the Urgent Care, if my lower blood pressure got up to 100. It did reach 100 and more. A friend from out of town, who was on his way to my home, was close to my house. After calling him and telling him of my health problem, he told me to wait and he would take me to Monroe, NC for medical care.

Urgent Care checked me out and sent me to Carolina Medical Center-Union for further observation.

After additional tests and X-Rays, my Cardiologist was called in and was planning to use a catheter for angioplasty balloon and possible stent placement. The first artery one was fine. After viewing the second which has a 90% blockage, and for whatever reason, my Cardiologist decided to send me to a different Cardiologist in Charlotte. The Charlotte, NC Cardiologist made an effort, but failed to open the second artery, and using his words said, "the artery is as if the artery is glued together". I was discharged on Friday PM.

On Sunday, my blood pressure went crazy again, reaching to 122 on the lower number. Union County EMS carried me back to Charlotte Mercy. After much tests, the Cardiologist said the blood was flowing around the blocked artery. After much study, it was determined my biggest problem was salt, and I was dismissed on Tuesday afternoon. With that in mind, I will try to produce ConservativeChristianRepublican-Report on a regular basis.

Thanks for the patience.

Gratitude connects us to others and feeling gratitude allows us to be our best selves. When we are truly grateful, we can count on living the life we want. -- MJ Ryan

"There are in nature neither rewards nor punishments, there are consequences." -- Robert Ingersoll

"Daily Devotions" (KJV and/or NLT)

The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By His mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each day... I will hope in Him. (Lamentations 3:22-24)

One day in 1988, Samuel and Danielle sent their young son, Armand, off to school. Hours later, a powerful earthquake rocked the area. People were trapped under flattened buildings. Kissing his wife, Samuel grabbed his coat and headed for the school. What he saw brought tears to his eyes. Armand's school was a pile of debris.

Where Armand's classroom used to be, Samuel began pulling a broken beam off the pile. He picked up a rock and put it to the side, then another, and another. One of the parents looking on asked, "What are you doing?"

"Digging for my son," Samuel answered.

The man exclaimed, "You're just going to make things worse! This building is unstable," and tried to pull Samuel away. Others, including a firefighter, tried to get him to stop, but he would not.

All through the night and into the next day, Samuel continued digging. Finally, a faint "Help!" came from under the rubble. Then the faint voice came again. "Papa?"

He began to dig furiously. Finally, he could see his son. "Come out!" he said with relief.

"I told the other kids not to worry," Armand said. "I told them that if you were alive, you'd save me and when you saved me, they'd be saved. You promised you'd always be there for me." Fourteen children were saved that day because one father was faithful.

How much more faithful is our heavenly Father! Whether trapped by fallen debris in an earthquake or trapped by life's hardships, we are never cut off from His love and faithfulness.

Your View of God Really Matters …

Do you ever wonder if God will be faithful to you, in your circumstances? Meditate on Lamentations 3:22-24. Although this was written to the Israelites after the sacking of Jerusalem, it also speaks to us today of the hope that comes from focusing on who God is.

"No country upon earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings than United America. "Global Warming"- science or political propaganda?

By Chuck Sproull

From studying a wide spectrum of sciences in 2 colleges for 5 years, and measuring the various processes within and beneath the ocean surface as an Oceanographer for 9 years, I believe the combined effects of sun light and ocean surface temperature are the major cause of all atmospheric conditions. Since about 75% of Earth's surface is ocean water, what happens to the atmosphere as it across over the ocean surface has more influence on our climate than what happens as it blows over the 25% land.

According to information in IMPRIMIS (Hillsdale College publication Aug 2007, Vol 36 #8) and other honest scientific studies (including Dendrochronology - study of tree rings in very old trees), our climate may slowly be warming up as a result of natural periodic changes in the earth that cause slight long-term variations in oceanic and atmospheric temperatures. This has been going on for centuries - so no big deal. In fact, real science has shown long-term minor temperature increases in some areas of the world and decreases in other parts.

I believe long-term climate changes are influenced mostly by the following process: long-term rise and fall of transfer of heat from the intensely-hot molten magma currents inside the earth, through the relatively thin tectonic plates that form the ocean bottoms, into the deep ocean water masses, through circulation from the deep to shallow, and finally to the surface where it contacts the atmosphere.

If ocean surface temperatures are slowly warming from the combined effects of rising internal temperatures and increased sunlight (decreased sun spots), then the wind would carry a warmer climate to the land masses. Even if the atmosphere over the land masses is being heated up by man-made CO2, (like massive harvesting lumber from trees in rain forests, driving gas-fueled cars and trucks, power plants burning coal, incinerators, and raising cattle) that is only a small contribution to the global climate.

Furthermore I believe that volcanoes and forest fires put more carbon into the atmosphere and affect global temperatures and climates more than any man-made sources, and therefore they should be charged more carbon taxes.

During the "Ice Age," when glaciers were covering parts of North America, global temperatures could have been 60 degrees (F) cooler than they are now. And mankind didn't have any influence on the global warming from that age.

Also, I believe it is un-scientific (dishonest political propaganda) when people look at glaciers that appear to be receding, and attribute that to man-made global warming. They are not considering the long-term phase of formation of that particular glacier. The lower end of that glacier was formed at a higher elevation many hundreds of years earlier. If, for example during a 30-year period, the precipitation on that mountain top gradually reduced and resulted in a gradual thinning of that portion of the glacier, and it slowly flowed to its present location at the lower (warmer) end of the valley, then even if the climate and atmospheric temperature remained the same, the end of that thinned portion of the glacier would slowly melt and appear to recede up the valley. I don't know of any studies that have taken that possibility into consideration. If you know of any, please let me know.

Therefore, I believe that global warming activists are "FULL OF HOT AIR," and there to be a better political climate in America if they would just "COOL IT."

Mark Mix Talks with Glenn Beck about Obama’s Bogus ‘Jobs Summit’

National Right to Work president Mark Mix recently appeared on Glenn Beck’s FOX News program to discuss President Obama’s phony “Jobs Summit” – a Big Labor-stacked PR stunt to suggest the President’s policies are not actually making matters worse.

As Mix explains during the discussion, Big Labor’s plan is to create even more government jobs so union bosses can line their coffers with more forced union dues seized from government workers.

Of course, that’s a recipe for disaster, as cities, school districts, and other government entities across the country are facing bankruptcy as a result of union monopoly control, featherbedding, wasteful work rules, and inflexible union contracts.

One idea Obama and his union boss allies did not consider, but would if they were serious about promoting jobs, is to end forced unionism altogether. Forced unionism is killing America’s economy, particularly in states like Michigan, California, and the Northeast.

Mix appeared on the show for 45 minutes. Watch the full video clip by clicking here.

Petition: Free the Navy SEALs
By Michelle Malkin

Human Events has posted a petition to free the Navy SEALs who’ve been hauled up for court martials after an infamous jihadi in Iraq (the same one who masterminded the ambush of Blackwater contractors whose bodies were burned and hung on a bridge in Fallujah) accused them of punching him in the stomach during a raid earlier this fall. You can sign here (petition text below). Members of Congress have called on Secretary Gates to intervene as well. Two of the SEALs were arraigned earlier this week and spoke out. Here’s an interview with Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe’s lawyer. Interviews and local coverage here. Excerpt:

Two Navy SEALs accused of mistreating an alleged terrorist denied the charges Monday — one during a formal arraignment and the other in more plain-spoken terms after the court proceeding.

“No — the answer’s no, point blank,” said Special Operator 2nd Class Matthew McCabe, as he met well-wishers outside Naval Station Norfolk.

McCabe is one of three Navy SEALs charged with mistreating Ahmed Hashim Abed, the suspected mastermind of the March 2004 attack that killed four Blackwater employees. The SEALs have also been credited with his capture.

The grisly ambush created worldwide headlines as the bodies of the burned and mutilated victims were displayed for the press to photograph.

…Capt. Moira Modzelewski, who presided over the arraignment, set a Jan. 11 trial date for Huertas and Jan. 19 for McCabe.

The case has attracted widespread public attention. About 20 members of Congress have signed a letter circulated by Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., calling on Defense Secretary Robert Gates to intervene.

It has also attracted grass-roots support from people like Richard Berndt, of Virginia Beach, who arrived at the naval base at 6 a.m. with a sign that read, “You Fought For Us — Now We Fight For You.”

“I just feel I owe these guys everything I can give them,” said the 24-year Navy veteran. “They just need our support.”

Donna Zovko, the mother of one of the four slain Blackwater employees, drove from Cleveland, Ohio, to stand with the supporters. In one emotional moment, she found herself next to Marty McCabe, the father of the accused Navy SEAL.

The two shared a few words before embracing.

Until the charges became public, Zovko had never known the names of the SEALs credited with Abed’s capture.

“It took me a few minutes to talk to her,” McCabe said later. “I kind of got choked up. This is closure for her.”

IBD also has an editorial today calling for the SEALS to be freed. Amen to their conclusion: “McCabe is…officially charged with punching Abed ‘in the midsection with his fist’ while in custody. It is the American people who are being sucker-punched in the gut.”

Sign the petition (commenters say they are getting timeouts from overload – keep trying!):

Hon. Robert M. Gates
Secretary of Defense
The Pentagon
Washington, DC

Dear Secretary Gates:

We, the editors and staff of HUMAN EVENTS, and the many Americans who have attached their signatures to this petition, hereby request your personal intervention to dismiss the charges against Navy SEAL operators SO2 Jonathan Keefe, SO1 Julio Huertas and SO2 Matthew McCabe.

These three men are charged with abusing a terrorist they captured in a daring nighttime raid on or about 1 September 2009. On that night, they — as part of a platoon from SEAL Team 10 — captured and detained Ahmed Hashim Abed, one of the most barbaric and dangerous terrorists in Iraq. The terrorist — in a move that is literally right out of the al-Queda training manual — complained of abuse, apparently alleging he was struck in the stomach.

We had hoped that the SEALs’ commanders would dispose of this matter at the lowest level — with a scolding and perhaps a few hundred pushups — for anyone actually guilty of inflicting an inconvenience on this bloody-handed barbarian. But on 29 September 2009, Gen. David H. Petraeus signed a letter authorizing MGen. Charles T. Cleveland to dispose of the allegations of misconduct. In that letter, Gen. Petraeus said that MGen. Cleveland could, “…dispose of these matters in any manner you deem appropriate. This includes the authority to convene courts-martial at any level up to and including General Courts-Martial and to refer charges concerning these individuals to any court-martial.”

The three now face special courts-martial next month. We believe their commanders — including General Petraeus — have failed you, the SEALs and the American people by not preventing the matter from going this far.

You are the person next in line above General Petraeus in the chain of command. You can, legally under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, intervene to dismiss the charges against the three SEALs and direct that they be restored to duty.

We respectfully request that you do so forthwith. For this matter to continue — and to place the honor and fighting future of these three men at stake — is manifestly a gross injustice.

Government Has Yet to Provide Evidence to Support Its Prosecution of Navy Seals for Alleged Punching of Terrorist

Norfolk, Va. (CNSNews.com) – Though trial dates have been set for mid-January, defense attorneys for three Navy SEALs charged with offenses arising from the alleged punching a terror suspect in the mid-section said at an arraignment on Monday in Norfolk, Va., that the government still had not provided any evidence in the case.

If defense attorneys do not get the evidence soon enough to review it, it might raise the need for a delay in the trial date, said Monica Lombardi, civilian attorney for Julio Antonio Huertas Jr., 28, who pleaded innocent in military court at the Norfolk Naval Station on Monday. His trial date is set for Jan. 11, 2010.

Lombardi told CNSNews.com that the government provided no time window as to when the evidence will be provided. She told reporters it is “highly unusual” to wait this long for evidence and predicted the trial might be delayed if the defense does not have adequate time to review the evidence.

Matthew Vernon McCabe, 24, deferred his plea at the arraignment on Monday. His civilian attorney Neal Puckett said it is routine for him not to offer a plea for his clients at the arraignment.

“The problem will be whether they provide the evidence soon enough to give us enough time to prepare for the trial,” Puckett told CNSNews.com after the hearing. Typically evidence is provided before the arraignment, he said. Nevertheless, he still expects to be able to go to trial on Jan. 19.

Lt. Col. Holly Silkman, spokeswoman for the Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT), told CNSNews.com last week that the military was still reviewing the evidence in the case to determine whether it contained classified information.

The charge sheet was only made available to the public late on Friday evening.

The terror suspect who accused the SEAL of punching him in the mid-section is Ahmed Hashim Abed, alleged architect of the murder of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004. The bodies of the four Americans were burned and hanged from a bridge.

The three SEALS are McCabe, 24; Huertas, 28 and Jonathon Elliott Keefe, 25. Keefe’s arraignment was continued.

Huertas is charged with impeding an investigation, dereliction of duty, and making a false official statement. McCabe was charged with assault, dereliction of duty, and making a false official statement. Keefe’s arraignment was continued. He is charged with dereliction of duty and making a false official statement.

The alleged incident happened on Sept. 1 at Camp Schweidler in Iraq, when Abed was already in captivity. If convicted in the special court martial, the SEALs face a maximum penalty of one year in military confinement, forfeiture of two-thirds of their pay for one year, and a discharge for bad conduct.

The three SEALs are facing misdemeanor charges. The military first sought non-judicial punishment, called a “captain’s mast.”

A “captain’s mast” would have spared them any chance of imprisonment but would have severely harmed or possibly ended their military careers, defense attorneys said. So the SEALs refused the “captain’s mast” and opted for a court martial to clear their name, even though the punishment from a court-martial conviction could be more severe.

“It’s hard to be labeled a hero--you heard the list of medals--two tours in Iraq, one tour in Afghanistan,” Lombardi told reporters after the court hearing. “He [Huertas] is confident in his defense team and confident justice will be served.”

The Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., is decorated with 3,000 ornaments that are the handiwork of U.S. schoolchildren. Encircling evergreens in the ‘Pathway of Peace’ represent the 50 U.S. states.

The world’s largest Christmas tree display rises up the slopes of Monte Ingino outside of Gubbio, in Italy’s Umbria region. Composed of about 500 lights connected by 40,000 feet of wire, the ‘tree’ is a modern marvel for an ancient city

This Christmas tree befitting Tokyo’s nighttime neon display is projected onto the exterior of the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka.

Illuminating the Gothic facades of Prague’s Old Town Square, and casting its glow over the manger display of the famous Christmas market, is a grand tree cut in the Sumava mountains in the southern Czech Republic.

Venice ’s Murano Island renowned throughout the world for its quality glasswork is home to the tallest glass tree in the world. Sculpted by master glass blower Simone Cenedese, the artistic Christmas tree is a modern reflection of the holiday season.

Moscow celebrates Christmas according to the Russian Orthodox calendar on Jan. 7. For weeks beforehand, the city is alive with festivities in anticipation of Father Frost’s arrival on his magical troika with the Snow Maiden. He and his helper deliver gifts under the New Year tree, or yolka, which is traditionally a fir.

The largest Christmas tree in Europe (more than 230 feet tall) can be found in the Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, Portugal. Thousands of lights adorn the tree, adding to the special enchantment of the city during the holiday season.

‘Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree’: Even in its humblest attire, aglow beside a tiny chapel in Germany’s Karwendel mountains, a Christmas tree is a wondrous sight.

Ooh la la Galeries Lafayette! In Paris, even the Christmas trees are chic. With its monumental, baroque dome, plus 10 stories of lights and high fashion, it’s no surprise this show-stopping department store draws more visitors than the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower

With addition to the Vatican’s heavenly evergreen, St. Peter’s Square in Rome hosts a larger-than-life nativity scene in front of the obelisk.

The Christmas tree that greets revelers at the Puerta del Sol is dressed for a party. Madrid’s two-week celebration makes millionaires along with merrymakers. On Dec. 22, a lucky citizen will win El Gordo (the fat one), the world’s biggest lottery.

The token of gratitude for Britain’s aid during World War II, the Christmas tree in London’s Trafalgar Square has been the annual gift of the people of Norway since 1947.

A bit of History:

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the OldTestament.
The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit–Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit–Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles’ Creed.

CHRISTMAS AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

Know the line has held, your job is done.

Rest easy, sleep well.

Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.

Peace, peace, and farewell…

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths — some 5,000 — are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington,Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He’s done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.
