Banning guns and the Second Amendment is supporting criminal activity
"But to ban guns
because criminals use them is to tell the innocent and law-abiding that their
rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the
guilty and the lawless, and that the law will permit them to have only such
rights and liberties as the lawless will allow. ... For society does not
control crime, ever, by forcing the law-abiding to accommodate themselves to
the expected behavior of criminals. Society controls crime by forcing the
criminals to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of the
law-abiding." - Jeff Snyder

Senator Ted Cruz not only Swept the floor on the Gun Control Hearings..he took out the trash
Wow! Wow! Wow! These hearings define some of the “ignorance”
of some of those who support “gun control” in an effort of the Liberal “know-it-all”
who really know little about weapons but wish to destroy our Second Amendment. - OscarY. Harward
‘Gang of Eight’ US Senators pursuing ‘freedoms for criminals’
By Oscar Y. Harward
Do Capitol Hill
legislators and/or the main-stream Medias have any respect for over 600,000
American men and women who have given their lives in the Military and/or the millions
who have served in defending our Constitution, our American Flag, and our freedoms? Someway, we must stop President Obama and Capitol
Hill legislators from granting ‘freedoms to criminals’.
Now, President Obama,
and the US Senate ‘Gang of Eight’
are attempting ‘freedoms for criminals’,
including Sen. Robert Menendez who
employed Luis Zavaleta in his Senate office; an ‘illegal immigrant’ and a
registered sex offender. The Miami
Herald reports “FBI agents late
Tuesday night raided the West Palm Beach business of eye doctor Salomon Melgen,
left, suspected of providing free trips and even underage Dominican prostitutes
to U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J. — who has denied what he calls the
“fallacious allegations.”” Homeland
Security instructed federal agents not to arrest Zavaleta until after Election
Day.
Sen. Menendez is not
being forced out or openly implied by his fellow Senate colleagues that he must
resign from his US Senate office or even any Senate Democrat Party Committee.
The ‘Gang of Eight’
consists of Democrats Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL.), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen.
Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO). They are joined by Republicans Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen.
Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ).
Anytime Sen. Chuck
Schumer, Sen. Robert Menendez, and/or Sen. Dick Durbin are leading legislation(s),
it ‘ain’t’ good for Republicans. Their
voting records will sustain this accusation.
What and why are Republicans so intense in support of the Democrat Party Platform and a disgrace to all Americans who have served and/or
died to defend our Constitution, our American Flag, and our freedoms? Instead, support the Republican Party Platform on ‘immigration’, and nothing less.
Illegal immigrants
are invaders of the USA as they purchase and/or steal an American identity;
Social Security number, Driver’s License, etc., and often survive off the
government for subsidized housing, food, education, healthcare, etc.; all at
American taxpayers’ expense. The USA
currently has some 11 million to 12 million Latino ‘illegal immigrants’. Some suggest another 11 million ‘illegals’
from the Middle East and North Africa, a breeding ground for ‘terrorists’.
Sen. Jeff Sessions,
(R-AL) says, “A large-scale amnesty is
likely to add trillions of dollars to the national debt over time, accelerate
Medicare’s and Social Security’s slide into insolvency, and put enormous strain
on our public assistance programs.”
President Obama and
every Capitol Hill legislator should be asked, “Who, when, and how is our
increasing ‘National Debt’ to be
paid; currently approaching $16.5 trillion of debt? Are you willing to force (y)our child(ren),
(y)our grandchild(ren), and further generations to be hopelessly burdened with your
created debt?”
Without a ‘stoppage’
and ‘reduction’ of our rocketing National Debt and a newer form with higher
cost on ‘immigration’, President Obama and every Capitol Hill legislators are driving
our policies achieving in the direction of retaining bank robbers and employing
these corrupt individuals as police officers and/or bankers.
Enforce current ‘immigration’ laws first. Law-abiding
Americans welcome ‘legal immigration’. Criminal
Americans support ‘illegal immigration’.
Do not be hoodwinked allowing
Liberal Democrats and RINO Republicans to grant ‘freedoms for criminals’ or other
Constitutional freedoms to repetitive offenders. Do not believe it when main-stream Medias
tell you that ‘legal immigration’ is broken.
It is not! It has been legal, fair
and equal, honorable, and successful for more than 200 years. Many elected and/or appointed officials are,
themselves, violating our Constitution, US Code, and our enclosed ‘Immigration
Laws”.
If ‘illegal
immigrants’ love America’s freedoms so much, they will seek to obey the laws of
the USA that have been so privileged by many for more than 200 years. Legal Americans deserve our jobs and our
freedoms.
Do not permit President
Obama and Capitol Hill legislators to provide ‘freedoms for criminals’.

Boehner, McConnell, and RINO Republicans; ‘NO MORE’ to illegal immigration or spending.
By
Oscar Y, Harward
The
USA is in a recession and/or a depression.
Many Americans are searching for jobs in the ‘private sector’, yet Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader
Mitch McConnell, and many Republicans In Name Only (RINO) are coordinating with
Capitol Hill Democrats to scrap a near perfect ‘legal Immigration’ system; new legislation to open more ‘illegal immigrants’ to take more of our
American jobs while these same ‘illegal
immigrants’ are increasing American taxpayers’ more cost for their
education, food assistance, healthcare, housing, etc.
Speaker
John Boehner, Sen. Mitch McConnell, and Republicans should be focusing on
requiring the lawless elected and appointed government officials to obey the
Constitution, our US Code, and our ‘legal
immigration’ laws; not ignoring and/or disobeying our laws. For now, these GOP leaders are following and
granting more ‘lawlessness’, rather
than leading Americans under our Constitution and US Code.
Please
explain to me and many others. What is
wrong in requiring ‘illegal immigrants’
to follow our ‘immigration’ laws that
have worked very well for more than 200
years; and to stop ‘illegal immigrants’
from stealing and/or purchasing a fraudulent Social Security and/or Driver’s
License, etc., prior to and/or after their arrival?
Furthermore,
how are Boehner, McConnell, his RINO Republicans, and his Liberal Democrats
going to prevent more ‘terror’ from being approved to relocate and live in our
neighborhoods?
Back
on the economic issue, under the Obama administration’s ‘political policies’, our economy may get even worse with increasing
unemployment and more snowballing inflation;
however, Obama can always blame it on G.W. Bush and the main-stream
Medias will follow.
Speaker
John Boehner, Sen. Mitch McConnell, his RINO Republicans, and his Liberal
Democrats continue to spend as if America has ‘unlimited Federal funds’. Boehner, McConnell, and his RINO Republicans
continue to negotiate away more of taxpayers’ Federal money and our
Constitutional freedoms. They say one
thing, only to continue to negotiate and spend (y)our taxpayers’ money on a
‘credit card’ leaving more and more debt to our children, their children, etc.
Conservative
Republicans all across America are becoming more disgusted with the Senate and
Congressional Party leadership. The GOP leadership
of today is joining Democrat Party’s policies by duplicating their Liberal
political policies in more recent years.
It
is time to say ‘NO MORE” to Liberalism.
Quit negotiating with Liberal Democrats as if you are defenseless and indecisive
children. Save our nation! Americans are waiting!

Second Amendment’s intent was and is to protect Americans from a mutinous government
By Oscar Y. Harward
The radical ‘left’ in politics and the ‘mean-stream’ Medias are manipulating
Americans on proposed changes in laws to outlaw our rifles, shotguns, pistols,
and its’ accessories. Their ill-promoted
campaigns are to deceive Americans that all hunters, sportsmen/sportswomen,
and/or others will not be affected by their
legislation; but only to eliminate victims of all guns.
Our Founding Fathers
were well aware most men were hunters who went out to kill wildlife in providing
meat to feed themselves and their families.
Hunting for food with guns was no concern for creating the Second Amendment.
Read the US History http://cap-n-ball.com/fathers.htm! The primary purpose of the Second Amendment was and is
to make sure Americans were never to be denied adequate weapons to compete in a
battle against a ‘mutinous government’.
Who should or would
want to own a weapon with a magazine that holds 40 cartridges? Anyone who wishes to protect himself/herself,
his/her family, our Constitutional freedoms, and wishes to maintain whatever is
necessary for these protection(s), and/or when any of us foresee the
potential(s) who may decide to overrule our Constitutional freedoms and when
mutinous government official(s) have weapons with a magazine that holds 40
cartridges. This is when you and I must
demand that we, too, be allowed to compete in the battle with weapons against
any individual(s), group(s), government(s), etc. for the protection of our
lives, our families, and our Constitutional freedoms.
Look around. Talk to
your family, friends, and neighbors.
Many are now in fear of a potential mutinous government right here. Many elected and appointed officials are ignorant,
ignoring, and/or disobeying our Constitution, US Code, and many other laws as
they choose; without even being investigated, arrested, and/or prosecuted.
Do not be misled by
the ‘left’ in politics and/or by the ‘main-stream’ Medias. Become more educated by our Founding Fathers.
http://www.guncite.com/gc2ndfqu.html
We must keep and
protect our Second Amendment. It was and
is intended to protect Americans from a mutinous government.
KEEP
YOUR EYES ON THE BALL! The Second
Amendment’s intent was and is to protect Americans from a ‘mutinous government’, not just allowing sportspersons to hunt for
wildlife.

Thank you, Sen. Berger for your leadership
By Oscar Y. Harward
N.C. Senate President
Pro-tem Phil Berger doesn’t need me in defense of erroneous charges; however,
may I offer my observation?
Sen. Phil Berger, a majority
of the GOP majority NC General Assembly does support Voter ID, a process to
stop and/or prevent Voter fraud.
Voter fraud is a
problem as each counterfeit vote actually diminishes every voter’s rights, and
voter fraud does not characterize the skin color of the fraudulent voter(s). Free and open voting elections are one of
the most precious freedoms under our Constitution. Voter fraud is a Constitutional violation of
one of our freedoms; an open election by qualified voters to have their votes
entirely counted. Based on political
polls in NC, upwards of 70% to 80% of our citizens support Voter ID legislation.
All education in NC
is one of the most important activities, be it be public, private, church, charter,
home, or otherwise. Collecting National
Education Association’s (NEA) Labor Unions dues is not and should not be any
responsibility of NC Government.
Public Education
results have been declining for years all across the USA. For many years, the USA ruled the world in
education our children. Not so any
more. Labor Unions in education are and have
continued to downgrade our public education in our children. With 56 nations tested, the USA finished number
30. Based on the National
Center for Education Statistics, and
with 8th graders with MA having the highest score of 299, DC having the lowest
score of 260, NC finished in 22nd place scoring 286.
Sen. Berger and almost
all others believe teachers’ pay must be associated on evaluations with
educational results; not just on tenure.
NC is blessed with Right-to
Work laws which allow workers to join a Labor Union if they choose, but does
not require Labor Union membership to any.
Labor Unions have demanded more wages, salaries, and benefits
in the private sector that have required many
businesses to relocate or close.
In NC, everyone in
need of healthcare is allowed to receive help as necessary in the private sector
or the public sector. As a patient with
failing health, NC and the USA have the best healthcare system in the entire
world.
Again, Thank you Sen.
Phil Berger for your leadership.

Open Letter to the President Barack Obama
Thursday, January 17, 2013
Mr. President
Today, there are families who question the direction of the nation. There are fathers and mothers trying to figure out how to pay the bills, to put children through college, to just get by everyday when wages have been depressed by overwhelming unemployment. I know it is at 7.8%, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Your economists understand what I am saying.
We are a nation saddled with many bills and deficits that are not realistically ever going to be repaid. For example, the treasury receives around 2.3 trillion dollars in revenue every year, but spends nearly 5 trillion, or 5,000 billion dollars. There are concerns that to continue to operate the federal government, social security, medicare, medicaid, etc., the government is going to have to devalue the dollar. QE 1&2 didn't do it. The Stimulus package went largely to government entities as grants and such. This is not a criticism, but it is a fact. That money did not filter down to small business.
I believe that at some point the government is going to have to crash the dollar to pay off some of the bonds already held in order to borrow more money to pay the bills. This is not radical, I think it is something you already know is necessary. I think you proved that by excercising Quantitative Easing 1& 2. It will be an accounting correction to you and the federal government, but it will destroy the lives of millions of Americans. I will cede that the damage was not done by you alone, far from it, but it will fall to you to make that fateful decision.
Under your predecessor, George W. Bush, at a time of national crisis, we ceded some of our rights to the federal government believing that the only way to keep terrorists from attacking our homeland was to give a little when it came to privacy. But, even though it was Bush who got us into it, you have done nothing to restore liberty now that Al Qaeda, in your words is "on the run." When will these temporary violations of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments going to be restored and what is your plan to restore them and in what degrees?
It might have gone unnoticed in the pomp and circumstance of inauguration that there is an oath tied to the admitting of one to office. It asks if the office holder is willing to affirm that they will abide by the Constitution, to "protect and defend the Constititution against all enemies foreign and domestic" without coercion or intent to deceive. With everything aside, I mean the fact that so many voted for you; that popularity and media adoration are a given to someone of your background who has attained such high office and the support of African Americans, who are hungry for representation; that Hollywood is in your corner; that labor unions and a lot of people who have not found their place in American society as you have done look to you for inspiration; given all of that, are you willing to swear on your honor that you will protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic without coercion or deception? I ask this, because you have not done so in the first four years of your presidency.
Despite what you have been taught and what the legacies of other administrations have been shown, the Constitution is not a document to be further defined. Even in legal language terms such as "shall not be infringed" and "Congress shall make no law" are pretty definitive, even if they are legalistically worked around. For citizens like me, the words of the Constitution are all they need, they don't need legal scholars to explain "shall not" or "make no law."
Which brings us to the point. I am a Second Amendment advocate, I make no apologies for that, but I am also a First Amendment advocate and down the line. I believe that the Bill of Rights were that, a bill from the government to the people of certain rights, not privileges, not exceptions, not waivers, hard and fast rights, inalienable to us all on birth in the United States of America. So, when I say I am a Second Amendment advocate, I don't hold that right any greater than any other, except to say that it is the last refuge to maintain other rights that may have already been alienated by clever lawyers and Supreme Court Justices.
On this issue let me be blunt: after the many abuses of our rights through the decades, not just your administration, but others even more egregious, we have come to a point where we have had enough. We have let your agents grope our children and grandmothers, steal from our luggage, laugh at our naked images on X-ray machines that deliver who knows how much radiation, all in order to get on an airplane and not disappoint family and friends; not lose business our employers expect; not be late for weddings and funerals; not infuriate others in line at security checkpoints in airports and etc. These practical allowances have not been taken in the spirit which they were meant, i.e. as an accommodation to a nation suddenly under attack by violent and hateful terrorists willing to put our children on the front lines of a deadly and persistent war against the West.
Sandy Hook Elementary was a devastating blow to America; it broke our hearts to think that children would be targeted in such a vile and vicious way. But, instead of handling this incident with the mind of a president eager to quell the fears of a nation, your response was to launch an attack against gun owners of all stripes, from the hunters, to sportsmen to the families forced by economics to live in violent neighborhoods where break-ins, rapes and murders are not as uncommon as they should be, whose only viable defense against the violence is self-defense in the form of a firearm. Yes, some of those threatened have needed five, six, or twenty bullets to defend themselves. There is no certain number that will do the trick, just as there is no certain number of assailants who will enter one's home.
In an attempt to be brief, I will get to the point. Your intent to do as much as you can to disarm the American public is apparent, either as legislation you support or Executive Orders you have signed. Your emotional appeal to the American public via surrounding yourself with children does not ring logical to the American family, because the defense of one's own children is often the sole purpose to own firearms. I can point you to innumerable instances where this has been the case and the total swamps by millions the twenty children you claim to represent with these orders.
Here's the fact of the matter: we have had enough.
We will resist at all costs your efforts, because we know the result. The result is Washington D.C. and its murder rate; Chicago and its murder rate versus Wyoming and its murder rate and I mean by per capita, not totals.
The bigger point, however, is that without the Second Amendment none of the others can be enforced by the people themselves. Now, I understand that you have armies; you have federal officers. I do not underestimate the power of the federal government, or its agents. I do not mean to call them out, but neither shall we yield to that raw force that you represent with guns and tanks.
We do not believe that you have the law on your side. As is typical, you are likely to attack me on legalities and what the Constitution says or doesn't say as defined by Stare Decisis and such, or what some Supreme Court Justice wrote once in a big book. What I am telling you is that there is a breaking point, a point at which we will go no further and will die to prove it.
I know the response from your spokesperson might be that we are suggesting going to war with the federal government, with law enforcement. That is not the case. In fact, we expect most of them to be on our side when you finally overplay your hand as you have so recently proven you are willing to do. Some people, yourself excluded, care about the oaths they take and the promises they make and I believe there will be a lot of soul-searching in the hearts of those you expect to carry out your orders against their neighbors, relatives and acquaintances.
You are welcome to ask me how many I am willing to kill to retain my rights as soon as you are willing to answer my question: How many are you willing to kill to get them?
Today, there are families who question the direction of the nation. There are fathers and mothers trying to figure out how to pay the bills, to put children through college, to just get by everyday when wages have been depressed by overwhelming unemployment. I know it is at 7.8%, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Your economists understand what I am saying.

Protect our Second Amendment
By Oscar Y. Harward
Based on our Second Amendment
freedoms, it should be ‘unconstitutional’
for law-abiding citizen(s) be required in any state to complete any government
form(s), other than a ‘legally valid’ Photo
Identification (ID), prior to purchasing any hunting rifle, shotgun, or
pistol.
An ‘instant’ National Instant Criminal
Background Check System investigation should and would immediately ‘qualify or deny’ each individual’s
right to purchase a hunting rifle, shotgun, or pistol.
Use of a hunting
rifle, shotgun, a pistol, etc., was addressed by our Founding Fathers only as “A well
regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right
of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
Many left-wing elected
and appointed officials, and other activists
who yearn in abolishing the Second Amendment often refer to these armaments only
as hunting guns; rifles, shotguns, and/or pistols, but their characteristic descriptions
are not metaphors from our Founding Fathers.
The ‘right of the
people to keep and bear Arms’ discussions were referenced by our
Founding Fathers only as a form of protection for individuals, their families,
and a protection ‘from’ a lawless and
mutinous government.
Any and all ‘elected and/or appointed’ government
officials, who require, create, and/or command a recorded public record of
purchasing, owning, and/or possession of a weapon, as defined, are themselves
the ‘lawless’ in creating and
recording additional illegal and unconstitutional freedoms, legislations,
and/or regulations.

UNION COUNTY, NC GOP POLITICS – THEN, NOW, AND TOMORROW
A “reprint”
of March 27, 2006
March 27, 2006
UNION COUNTY, NC GOP POLITICS – THEN, NOW, AND
TOMORROW
At the age of eight years old, I
became interested in partisan politics.
A few things Dad always provided included a stay at home mother and six
kids with plenty of good food, a roof over our heads, warm clothes, indoor
plumbing including a bathroom, a good radio, and the Charlotte Observer. With
the radio, no TV, and the newspaper, I could listen to and read the news. In
1952, I listened to the GOP National Convention and heard what I heard from and
about General Dwight D. Eisenhower. It was at that time when Republicanism
became implanted as a part of my life to come.
In 1965, Marshville’s Irvin
Griffin and I went to the UC Board of Elections to register and vote. In those
days, you had to be twenty one years old. In the 1966 Primary Election and
General Election, I was privileged to volunteer and work at the Marshville
Precinct on election days.
It was September 1976 when I
attended my very first official Union County GOP Executive Committee meeting
which was moderated by Attorney and UC GOP Chairman Don Perry at the Monroe
Chamber of Commerce. Earlier along the way, I volunteered on Jesse Helms’
original campaign in 1972 and all of his following campaigns. It was an honor
learning and working on other political campaigns with some very professional
campaign managers. Few of the locals may not know that Governor Ronald Reagan
won his first Presidential Primary right here in North Carolina in 1976.
President Gerald Ford won the 1976 Republican Party nomination; only to be
defeated by former Governor Jimmy Carter in the General Election. Ronald Reagan
went on to become the GOP nominee, was elected President in 1980, and reelected
in 1984; to become one of the most popular and most successful presidents in US
history. Roger Austin was elected UC GOP Chairman in 1977 and I as GOP
Secretary in 1977. I was then elected Chairman in 1979.
Marshville’s Roger Austin was
our GOP nominee for US Congress in 1978. Actress Elizabeth Taylor visited our
Eighth Congressional District on behalf of Roger Austin for Congress. I served
as “Austin for Congress” Chairman in the fall of 1978. Talking with Roger
Austin recently, he reminded me of my volunteering for GOP Gubernatorial
nominee Jim Gardner in 1968.
Until much more recent years,
Union County Republicans voted sparingly in primary elections which usually
allowed the activist to choose our GOP nominees. Then and now on General
Election days, the registered Republicans turn out massively voting for GOP
nominees.
Even back then, we knew we had a
message the massive numbers would welcome if they could just hear us. Some of
this changed with the addition of Reporter Gene Stowe of the Union Observer, a
change in the Managing Editor at the EJ, and the purchase of Jim “The Fox”
Reddish of WIXE. All of these changes allowed avenues for Conservative
Republicans to communicate through the media to the citizens of Union
County.
In the early days, Democrats outnumbered
Republicans in registration by more than ten to one. Oh, how times have changed
since the old days. The local Democrats use to joke about the UC GOP was to
hold our county conventions in a telephone booth; not anymore!
We must pay tribute to some of
the local folks who freely gave so much and were always there when the GOP
called. A short list includes Don and Edie Perry, the late Boyd Keziah, the
late Col. Paul Wrenn, who personally funded a political mailer one year, Janet
and Tommy Thompson, the late John and Angie Davis, Dick and Virginia Pierce,
Virginia Carpenter, Earle and Shirley Goode, Gwen and the late Al Pittman, the
late Wriston Green and his daughter Candace, Charles and Doris Greene, Darren
Greene, Donnie and Melvin Ledbetter, Gaston and Hazel Dutton, Roger and Beverly
Austin, Paul and Peggy Dvorak, Lula and David Moore, Carolyn McCorkle, the late
Tom and Georgia Winchester, Francis and Mitchell Arant. It was Mitchell Arant
who provided us the idea in 1980 which led to the election of Senator John
East, the late Hazel Giles and family,
Rebecca and the late Joe Medlin, Jim and the late Jake Plyler, both who were
always there for financial resources as needed, and Jim and Shirley Bossbach.
Shirley Bossbach probably personally registered more Republicans than any
others, ever. We must remember John W.
Newman and his late wife Idella, Clayton Loflin, Jim Baucom who provided window
space for advertising at Unionville Grocery, Donnie and Jane Baucom, Mike
Hogan, Lynne Hayes, Bill Davis, Fern Shubert, Curtis and Audrey Blackwood,
Eddie Goodall, Irene Brown, the late Don
and Kathy Griffin, Mike Kloc, Ruby and the late Bill Poole, Louise and the late
John Mullis, the late Mary Crowell, John and Jeannette Haynes, John Feezer, and
Vance Benton who always served as our cheerleader. We must remember the late
Olis and Carolyn Wynn who lived on a fixed income but always gave at least one
dollar for any fundraising and always worked within their own neighborhood to
get out the vote for GOP nominees, and a list too long to list. I just hope
each of you will forgive me for all omissions and/or corrections in failing to
personally mention so many important individuals along the way who made a
positive difference in the UC GOP.
In 1981, Shirley Bossbach was
elected UC GOP Chairman, and then reelected in 1983. Mrs. Bossbach led our
local GOP nominees in 1984 which were headed by President Ronald Reagan for
reelection, Sen. Jesse Helms’ reelection for US Senate, and Congressman Jim
Martin as our nominee for NC Governor. On the local level, the GOP commission
nominees were headed by Attorney Larry Harrington and New Salem’s Bill Davis
for Union County Commissioners. President Reagan won reelection, as did Sen.
Helms for US Senate. Congressman Jim Martin became the second Republican
Governor in modern history. Bill Davis and Larry Harrington were the first
elected Republican UC Commissioners in modern history.
It was in the early to mid
1980’s when the voter registration started to change and make a real
difference. Under other county leaders such as John W. Newman, Shirley
Bossbach, Clayton Loflin, and others, voter registration of Republican voters
started to outnumber Democrats, and it grew even wider as time moved
forward.
Clayton Loflin was elected UC
GOP Chairman in March 1985. Larry Harrington as UC Commissioner was the one who
made the GOP click for voters in Union County. Commissioner Harrington with the
assistance of Commissioner Bill Davis and Democrat commissioners corrected a
few wrongs within our local government, and working with the Democrat majority,
guided the Board to bring our citizens the then new Union Memorial Hospital,
started the development of the now countywide EMS which at the time was all
ambulances with first aid training operated by the City of Monroe. We must
thank the City of Monroe as it was the City of Monroe taxpayers, if I correctly
remember, who funded almost the entire earlier system. Beyond that, volunteers
in some three VFDs did fund, supply, and operate ambulance services with some
limited medical training. These somewhat rural volunteers must be remembered
and thanked for their personal time and money to train, supply, and operate
these volunteer ambulance services.
Politically speaking, most of
all, Larry Harrington moved the Democrat majority of the Board to more
adequately fund our local educational system, yet controlling growth in taxes.
That is when the voters of UC then started voting Republican
consistently.
In 1990, as I remember, Parker
Mills won a seat on the UC Commission. In the successive budget years,
Commissioner Mills voted for tax increases of 14%, 10%, and 12%. In his fourth
year, Commissioner Loflin gained the support of a majority to stop the growth
at 0% or 66 cents per $100.00 valuation. With Mills as a UC County Commissioner
representative on the UC Fireman’s Association, it was alleged that while the
Fireman’s Association would present a proposal to Commissioner Mills for
presentation to the entire UC Commission. Commissioner Parker Mills would
refuse to even present the volunteer firemen’s proposal to all commissioners
for the full Boards’ consideration. The issue at hand for the volunteer firemen
was to construct a Fireman’s Training Tower. UC community construction
volunteers later built the Training Tower at very little expense to the
taxpayers.
In 1994, a small group of us
were working behind the scenes with some UC Commissioners and with a “very
large group” of Union Memorial Hospital employees who wanted a change in their
UMH management leadership. These UMH employees had vented their justifiable
reasons for change. With all working together and winning three UC
Commissioners, we were able to obtain this objective. What a positive
difference we have seen with this change. Under the old management, UC
taxpayers were paying some $50,000 annually to the Union Memorial Hospital
mortgage building payments. Under the change in leadership at Union Regional
Medical Center, now renamed Carolina Medical Center-Union, the turnaround was
the building mortgage payments were paid by CMC-Union and the taxpayers
immediately started receiving in excess of over $1,000,000 annually. It was UC
Commissioner Chairman Parker Mills and Commissioner Paul Standridge who fought
this change and these two who fought for the group “Keep Health Care Local”
under Union Memorial Hospital and the old hospital management. Commissioner
Mills was soundly defeated for his reelection in the following GOP
Primary.
In the last four years, UC
Commissioners Stone, Sexton, and then Standridge who did not run for reelection
in 2004 was replaced by Roger Lane. It seems to me this is the time when these
commissioners ideology started to go astray to the left. Just two to three
months ago, our UC Finance Officer presented a plan as to how solid our
financial solid in UC was. No mention was said about the fact that our
Commissioners Stone and Sexton had led the way earlier and passed a twenty
percent tax increase along to Union County taxpayers. In one year, taxpayers
were faced with a local 20% tax increase. I ask either of these three “tax and
spend” commissioners as to what effort either of you did to save the higher
paying manufacturing jobs of Square D, Pennsylvania House, Schrader Automotive,
or anyone else? Did the manufacturing jobs leave because of the tax increases?
Why did these three commissioners insult the local management of Yale Security
for making an honest mistake? Why could you not consider these errors were as
presented by management to be pure honest accounting mistakes? With that
attitude and these excessive huge tax increases, is there any other reason for
these higher paying manufacturing jobs and others to leave Union County and be
relocated elsewhere? How many other manufacturing jobs in UC are currently
considering leaving? How many? When will these “tax and spend” commissioners
recognize this?
Union County citizens have some
certain assets which should not be up for sale. One is educating our children.
It seems to me these commissioners, who control the tax monies, have been
cheating the students at Union Academy. I ask any elected board member to truly
identify the Monroe School System in which Union Academy has been funded under.
There is no Monroe School System as it was merged into the Union County School
Board system many years ago.
Union County has only one school
district. Union Academy students should have always been funded equally as the
Union County Board of Education students were.
A second asset which should not
be for sale is our local hospital (Carolina Medical Center-Union. Is it a fact,
that within the last one year to eighteen months, one of these aforementioned
elected commissioners and/or the County Manager did an inquiry about selling
our local hospital? After finding our hospital could probably not be reasonably
sold as it is under an additional eighteen year lease, did the question then
become; “can we tax it”?
Under the Stone – Sexton session
along with either Standridge or Lane on the UC Commission, their fix was to
insult our citizens and dismiss all current board members, then replace with
ones whom these commissioners believed would support them on their own personal
and political agendas. Remember the Board of Adjustments and remember the
Planning Board?
In the last few years, it seems
something has gone wrong within the Republican Party leadership. I have been
criticized and/or chastised within the UC GOP leadership for my endorsing of
Democrat Monroe City Councilman Bobby Kilgore for Mayor in a non-partisan
election. In my October 2005 endorsement, I said “Bobby Kilgore was a young
policeman rising to become Monroe Chief of Police, a member of Monroe Civitan
Club being chosen as Citizen of the Year, an Executive of the Year as the
Bicentennial Chapter of Professional Secretaries International, a Man of the
Year for Union County, and the list goes on. Rotary International, Masonic
Lodge #244, Deacon/Trustee/Sunday School Class President at Oakland Baptist
Church, Member-Library Foundation, NC Governor’s Crime Commission, Habitat For
Humanity Nurture Committee, Union County CrimeStoppers, and there is even more,
a list too long to mention. Bobby Kilgore has now served on the Monroe City
Council for eight (8) years as Councilman. Bobby Kilgore is now asking for your
vote to become Mayor for the City of Monroe”.
I continued “I have considered
Bobby Kilgore to be a very good personal friend. Bobby Kilgore is one you can
always talk to about any issue. What a choice for the citizens of Monroe in
electing Bobby Kilgore as your Mayor. What a victory having Bobby Kilgore as
Monroe Mayor for the people and the entire surrounding area”.
On November 2005 election day,
Bobby Kilgore was elected by more than three to one over his opponent who was a
registered Republican. This opponent, Paul Standridge, who just before the 2005
municipal election had an editorial printed in the local newspaper(s) and who
had to recall the editorial and apologize for some of his statements which were
less than accurate.
It was this same opponent, Paul
Standridge, who just recently called on the UC Commissioners to provide the UC
employees a “Veterans Day” holiday. UC Commissioner Standridge is one UC Commissioner
who voted to take away the “Veterans Day” holiday and to make it an “optional”
holiday. Then Commissioner Standridge, along with Commissioners Richard Stone
and Hughie Sexton, then voted just a few months ago to totally eliminate the
“Veterans Day” as a holiday at all.
Commission Chairman Standridge
some two years ago said he did not remember he voted to provide “lifetime
health insurance benefits” to UC Commissioners at taxpayers’ expense.
Standridge’s personal signature was affixed about two inches from that portion of
the UC Budget document. After a political uprising, “lifetime health insurance
benefits” at taxpayers’ expense was reversed. Bobby Kilgore is an honorable
man. I stand by my October 2005 endorsement.
During the November 2005 UC
Executive Committee meeting, the UC GOP Chairman has said that if you take the
very “worse” of any registered Republican, they would be better than the very
“best” of any registered Democrat. This, I do not believe. GOP Chairman
McCollum should apologize and/or resign for such a radical and irrational
statement. While I may have problems with many Democrats on Capitol Hill, there
are many, many other very good people registered as Democrats around us right
here in Union County and all over America. I am proud to associate with many of
these Judeo Christian Conservatives regardless as to their political partisan
affiliation. Political registration does not alone determine the character of
any person. Again, I believe the GOP Chairman should apologize for that
statement and/or resign as Chairman. Neither the GOP nor anyone else needs that
technique of leadership. The disappointment is that a few others in the
leadership of our Republican Party echo that same message. It seems to me that
a few in leadership believe the GOP as a social club and anything goes. I
believe the real GOP to be a group of individuals working together with a
common goal to “practice and live by ideas of principle”; the GOP Plan of
Organization and the GOP Platform which our party stands for.
In the Republican Party which I
have worked now for forty years, we practiced by encouraging any and all
citizens to get involved in, participate in, and vote for our candidates based
on “political policies, values, and integrity” which the Republican Party
“political policies, values, and integrity” stood for and supported. I am proud to have joined in an effort to
participate in a minor part of “all” of Senator Jesse Helms’ winning campaigns,
three President for Ronald Reagan, one for US Senate John East, one for US Senate
“Lauch” Faircloth, and many, many others winning local elections along the way.
We, in the UC GOP, have been blessed with political leaders such as John W.
Newman and Shirley Bossbach to practice purity in political policies while
teaching values and integrity. These two politicos are, among others, shining
stars on morality in UC.
Over the years, our old practice
of persuasion has worked pretty well in Union County. While I am now disabled, very much less
mobile and unable to participate as I once did, I am still alive and making
every effort to make America a stronger country based on “political policies,
values, and integrity”. These “values”
are based in our Bible, our Constitution, and our GOP Platform.
Over the years, we have climbed
the mountain. We have seen what President Reagan said as “the dawning of a shining
city”. As we move forward, we must pursue to achieve even brighter days,
months, and years for the succeeding generations to come. To obtain even
greater heights, we must promote the old time Judeo-Christian, Conservative,
Republican values so many worked so hard for all to reach this level.
Remember Plato, “In a Democratic
society the price wise men pay for neglecting politics is to be ruled by unwise
men.”
God Bless America!

Fox News Signs Dennis Kucinich As Contributor
Cancelling Fox News Channel!
Fox News Chairman and CEO, Roger Ailes, has and is loading up so many
radical left-wingers to express their “Obama style Socialism”, it is making me
sick. The last straw is the Fox News
Channel hiring of former Congressman Dennis Kucinich from Cleveland, OH who represented
probably the most radical Socialist or Communist ever on Capitol Hill.
Time is more important than listen to this garbage.
There was a tear in my eye and a dagger in my heart as to why and how
Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes has moved Fox News Channel to the left in the last year or so.
I believe I will “switch” rather than listen to this left-wing rubbish. May I encourage others to do likewise?
Good day Fox News Channel!

Fox News Channel has signed former Congressman Dennis Kucinich as a paid contributor to FNC and Fox Business network. Kucinich, who was for years a liberal stalwart in the House of Representatives, will provide analysis and commentary across all of FNC and FBN’s programs, beginning with Thursday’s edition of “The O’Reilly Factor.”
“I’ve always been impressed with Rep. Kucinich’s fearlessness and thoughtfulness about important issues,” said Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes in a statement. “His willingness to take a stand from his point of view makes him a valuable voice in our country’s debate.”
Kucinich represented Ohio’s 10th district in Congress for 16 years, officially leaving office earlier this month. He also ran for President in 2004 and 2008, seeking the Democratic nomination.
“Through 16 years in Congress and two presidential campaigns, Fox News has always provided me with an opportunity to share my perspective with its enormous viewership,” Kucinich said in a statement. “I look forward to a continuation of our relationship this time as a Fox News contributor.”
