"The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship." (Psalm 19:1)

One of NASA's most important projects is the International Space Station. If you visit the Space Center in Houston, you can view a documentary film about the space station. On a huge screen several stories high, space ships carrying materials for the space station are shown blasting into the sky. The power of the rockets can be seen as the huge screen fills with boiling clouds of fire and smoke from the booster engines. The roar thunders throughout the room!

Next you see the orbiting space station. Its components are linked to allow astronauts to live in space and perform science experiments. Against the backdrop of the darkness of the universe, the huge space station floats through emptiness.

Then the camera turns to show the space station from another angle. Now the Earth is visible behind the steel structure with its many angles and parts. Our blue planet with its swirling clouds looms huge, dwarfing the now fragile-looking space station. The Earth appears so big that only a portion of its surface fills the entire screen.

Suddenly, you get a glimpse of how very close the space station really is to the Earth. Although it has taken thousands of pounds of fuel to blast the astronauts miles into space, they really have not gone far from our planet's surface compared to the expanse of space.

Sometimes we as humans become so caught up in our own power that we forget how very limited we are. But the God who created space is limitless. His power knows no bounds.

"The Patriot Post"

We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die: Our won Country's Honor, all call upon us for vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world. Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions." -- George Washington, General Orders, 1776

"There is a time for all things, a time to preach and a time to pray, but those times have passed away. There is a time to fight, and that time has now come." -- Peter Muhlenberg, from a Lutheran sermon read at Woodstock, Virginia, 1776

"They define a republic to be a government of laws, and not of men." -- John Adams, Novanglus No. 7, 1775

"I am commonly opposed to those who modestly assume the rank of champions of liberty, and make a very patriotic noise about the people. It is the stale artifice which has duped the world a thousand times, and yet, though detected, it is still successful. I love liberty as well as anybody. I am proud of it, as the true title of our people to distinction above others; but .... I would guard it by making the laws strong enough to protect it." -- Fisher Ames, letter to George Richard Minot, 1789

Here is just one additional evidence that the radical left-wing Democrats on Capitol Hill seem to be willing to cover any and all Democrats for all ethical and/or illegal activities, while attacking any Republican for any reasons. - oyh

I am sure you have seen the news. Last night the liberal Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi, voted down an effort to remove Representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY) from the Chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee.

You'll remember Charlie Rangel. We wrote you about Charlie Rangel last year.

Charlie Rangel is one of the most powerful liberals in Congress. As Chairman of Ways and Means he controls huge amounts of power. He decides how tax laws are written and the federal government is funded. He has been in Congress for more than 35 years and has a lifetime ACU conservative rating of only a whopping 3.7 % - meaning he has voted against conservative positions over 96% of the time.

And, while he has been voting for massive liberal spending and for the taxing of average Americans citizens, this is the same Charlie Rangel who himself has been avoiding full disclosure of his own income for years and years and years.

That's right. Rangel has now admitted that he failed to report as much as $1.3 million in income from 2002 to 2006. In 2008, his home state New York Post newspaper said he also failed to disclose $75,000 in rental income. He is being investigated for trips he has taken to the Caribbean for conferences and for almost half a million dollars worth of unreported assets.

Liberals in Congress are trying to avoid holding him accountable. Instead, they want to use his decades of built up power in Washington to push through new taxes for a government health care bill.

ACU has said it before and we say it again now. Charlie Rangel should resign from the Chairman of Ways and Means.

We should all go further and call on Congressman Charlie Rangel to do the right thing and resign from Congress, period.

State law against ‘unreasonable or loud’ noise used to arrest Christians sharing gospel but not enforced against town-sponsored concerts

HAMPTON, N.H. — Alliance Defense Fund allied attorneys filed suit Wednesday in federal court on behalf of two Christians arrested for sharing their faith and singing worship songs on a public sidewalk in the Hampton Beach area. Police arrested the two men, charging them under a state law against “unreasonable or loud” noise, but the law has not been used against other much louder activities in the very busy beach district, including bands sponsored by the village precinct to increase business in the area.

Criminal charges against the two men were dismissed, clearing the way for a civil suit challenging the vague state law.

“Christians shouldn’t be arrested for expressing their beliefs. Arresting someone simply because he chooses to exercise his First Amendment rights in a public place is unconstitutional,” said ADF Senior Counsel Joseph Infranco. “These young men wanted to tell those who passed by about their faith. They were singled out and arrested for sharing their faith and worshipping God while much noisier activities have not undergone the same scrutiny. It is our hope that this suit will result in a more properly worded state statute.”

On Aug. 4, 2008, Mark Frost, Jayson Gardner, and Craig Gardner were preaching to pedestrians on Ocean Boulevard in Hampton Beach. Because of the loud noise emanating from a rock concert at the beach boardwalk, the men rolled up a piece of paper to speak through so they could be heard. They were then approached by a police officer who informed them that they were in violation of a town noise ordinance, even though the men were preaching in an extremely noisy area and were told to stay quiet and stop using their paper “megaphone.”

The men complied with the request and moved to a different location two blocks away, where they preached without the rolled up paper and sang the Christian song “He Set Me Free.” The same officer reappeared and arrested Frost and Jayson Gardner for being too loud. While in custody, the police asked the men, “Where is your God now? There’s no God behind these walls.”

The men were subsequently charged with disorderly conduct under state law instead of being cited under the town’s noise ordinance. The Hampton District Court dismissed the charges, but as a result of the arrest, Frost and Gardner have not exercised their constitutional right to free speech on public sidewalks in Hampton for fear of arrest because of the arbitrary enforcement of the state law.

ADF-allied attorney Michael Tierney of the Manchester firm of Wadleigh, Starr & Peters, PLLC, is lead counsel in the case, Frost v. Town of Hampton, filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire. ADF-allied attorney John Anthony Simmons of Hampton is co-counsel.

Audio: Jennings wants sexual orientation sensitivity training "starting in Kindergarten"

Would you accept homosexuality to be taught to your children/grandchildren in (y)our local public schools? Why does America accept this in the political and/or the educational process? Homosexuality is against the law in our Holy Bible. Homosexuality should be against all criminal and civil laws in America. All Americans must demand that Kevin Jennings be fired. Kevin Jennings makes no secret that he wants schoolchildren as young as kindergartners to be taught about "not discriminating" based on sexual orientation. Kerry Picket at the Washington Times http://washingtontimes.com/weblogs/watercooler/2009/oct/06/kevin-jennings-boy-scouts-should-either-pay-and-st/ has found an audio recording of Jennings speaking about this issue.

Here is a partial transcript of Jennings' comments on the lack of sexual orientation sensitivity training in school curricula, and how it is causing LGBT students to be persecuted and distracted from studying:

"The fact that this is not in our curriculum should offend everyone in this audience. This should be our curriculum. Our curriculum at kindergarden, and first grade, and second grade - every grade until students have graduated should be 'you must respect every human being regadless of sexual orientation [etc.]. If we cannot teach this very basic lesson in our schools we will very surprised at how hard it is for these [LGBT] students to learn french or english or math ... you can't focus on reading, writing or 'rithmetic if you are instead focusing on survival."

These comments echo what the American Principles Project has discovered Jennings saying on-camera, http://www.americanprinciplesproject.org/blogs/video-kevin-jennings-answers-questions-about-education.html that all teachers, in his strong opinion, must be required to undergo LGBT-sensitivity coursework as a requirement before graduating and being allowed in a classroom, otherwise teachers without such training will inevitable become a "threat to children", he claimed.

Morning Bell: The Baucus Bait And Switch

http://blog.heritage.org/2009/10/08/morning-bell-the-baucus-bait-and-switch/

Throughout the health care debate, President Barack Obama repeatedly promised the American people that his health care plan “will help bring our deficits under control in the long term.” The problem is that the White House could not get the Congressional Budget Office to cooperate. Throughout the summer the CBO issued report after report showing that the versions of Obamacare working their way through Congress all added to the deficit.

First, CBO found that the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) bill would increase the deficit by $1 trillion. Three weeks later, the CBO released a report on a revised bill showing HELP 2.0 only raised the deficit by $597 billion. The House then got a little clever and tried to game the CBO scoring system by phasing in the major spending of their bill over time, but even that maneuver left them with $245 billion added to the deficit in the first ten years (with crippling deficits to come as the entitlement spending ramped up in the out years).

Enter Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-MT) who was determined to manipulate the CBO’s scoring system as best he could and deliver a deficit neutral version of Obamacare. After months of working directly with CBO staff, Baucus scored a victory for Obamacare yesterday when the CBO released a preliminary analysis purporting to show that the Baucus bill would reduce deficits by a total of $81 billion over the next decade. The New York Times awarded Baucus with the headline that the White House has been searching for since the debate first began: “Health Care Bill Gets Green Light in Cost Analysis.” But this headline and the accompanying article are fundamentally dishonest. As the Politico reported yesterday: “While the media and lawmakers often shorthand a CBO letter as a “score” or “cost estimate,” today’s CBO letter is neither. Because the bill is still in “conceptual,” or layman’s terms, CBO’s letter today was a “preliminary analysis.” For it to be an official cost estimate, the bill has to be translated into legislative language.”

Indeed, the CBO went to great pains to emphasize this fact in their letter to Congress: “CBO and JCT’s analysis is preliminary in large part because the Chairman’s mark, as amended, has not yet been embodied in legislative language.” But this isn’t even the most deceptive part of what the left in Congress is trying to pull on the American people. Not only does the Baucus bill not even really exist, just a Vapor Bill filled with conceptual language, it is about to be completely thrown out the window when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) merges it with the deficit busting HELP bill to move it to the Senate floor.

Then the real deception begins. Majority Leader Reid will then move to proceed on a House passed TARP tax bill, completely gut it, and insert his version of Obamacare. After the Senate passes the bill it will go to the House where if it is approved without amendment, it can then proceed directly to President Obama’s desk for signing. Throughout this whole time, the White House and the left in Congress will be using headlines like the one from the New York Times this morning to claim that Obamacare will reduce the deficit. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Baucus bill is the only version of Obamacare to get anything close to a deficit neutral nod from CBO and even that is done through creative deception. When it is combined with these other bills, Obamacare is certain to become an even greater budget buster once again. But the left’s entire strategy is to move fast so that a true CBO cost estimate of what Congress is actually voting on never happens.

Conservatives are fighting to make sure this deception is not perpetrated on the American people. Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) has introduced legislation that would change Senate rules to require a 72-hour waiting period and an official CBO cost estimate before the Senate was allowed to consider any legislation. If President Obama’s promises to the American people about ethics and transparency mean anything, then he should insist that Congress take its time and allow for a full CBO scoring of health reform.

Sunstein: Americans too racist for socialism

Defends communism, welfare state but says 'white majority' oppose programs aiding blacks, Hispanics

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=112243

By Aaron Klein
© 2009 WorldNetDaily

Cass Sunstein

JERUSALEM – The U.S. should move in the direction of socialism but the country's "white majority" opposes welfare since such programs largely would benefit minorities, especially blacks and Hispanics, argued President Obama's newly confirmed regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein.

"The absence of a European-style social welfare state is certainly connected with the widespread perception among the white majority that the relevant programs would disproportionately benefit African Americans (and more recently Hispanics)," wrote Sunstein.

The Obama czar's controversial comments were made in his 2004 book "The Second Bill of Rights," which was obtained and reviewed by WND.

In the book, Sunstein openly argues for bringing socialism to the U.S. and even lends support to communism.

"During the Cold War, the debate about [social welfare] guarantees took the form of pervasive disagreement between the United States and its communist adversaries. Americans emphasized the importance of civil and political liberties, above all free speech and freedom of religion, while communist nations stressed the right to a job, health care, and a social minimum."

Continued Sunstein: "I think this debate was unhelpful; it is most plausible to see the two sets of rights as mutually reinforcing, not antagonistic."

Get Glenn Beck's 'Common Sense' ... The case against an out-of-control government: Inspired by Thomas Paine

Sunstein claims the "socialist movement" did not take hold in the U.S. in part because of a "smaller and weaker political left or lack of enthusiasm for redistributive programs."

He laments, "In a variety of ways, subtle and less subtle, public and private actions have made it most difficult for socialism to have any traction in the United States."

Sunstein wants to spread America's wealth

WND first reported Sunstein penned a 2007 University of Chicago Law School paper in which he debated whether America should pay "justice" to the world by entering into a compensation agreement that would be a net financial loss for the U.S. He argues it is "desirable" to redistribute America's wealth to poorer nations.

A prominent theme throughout Sunstein's 39-page paper, entitled "Climate Change Justice" and reviewed by WND, maintains U.S. wealth should be redistributed to poorer nations. He uses terms such as "distributive justice" several times. The paper was written with fellow attorney Eric A. Posner.

"It is even possible that desirable redistribution is more likely to occur through climate change policy than otherwise, or to be accomplished more effectively through climate policy than through direct foreign aid," wrote Sunstein.

He posited: "We agree that if the United States does spend a great deal on emissions reductions as part of an international agreement, and if the agreement does give particular help to disadvantaged people, considerations of distributive justice support its action, even if better redistributive mechanisms are imaginable.

"If the United States agrees to participate in a climate change agreement on terms that are not in the nation's interest, but that help the world as a whole, there would be no reason for complaint, certainly if such participation is more helpful to poor nations than conventional foreign-aid alternatives," he wrote.

Sunstein maintains: "If we care about social welfare, we should approve of a situation in which a wealthy nation is willing to engage in a degree of self-sacrifice when the world benefits more than that nation loses."

Sunstein proposed 'socialist' bill of rights

In "The Second Bill of Rights," WND also reported, Sunstein proposed a new "bill of rights" in which he advanced the radical notion that welfare rights, including some controversial inceptions, be granted by the state. Among his mandates:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

The right of every family to a decent home;

The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

The right to a good education.
On one page in his book, Sunstein claims he is "not seriously arguing" his bill of rights be "encompassed by anything in the Constitution," but on the next page he states that "if the nation becomes committed to certain rights, they may migrate into the Constitution itself."

Later in the book, Sunstein argues that "at a minimum, the second bill should be seen as part and parcel of America's constitutive commitments."

WND has learned that in April 2005, Sunstein opened up a conference at Yale Law School entitled "The Constitution in 2020," which sought to change the nature and interpretation of the Constitution by that year.

Sunstein has been a main participant in the movement, which openly seeks to create a "progressive" consensus as to what the U.S. Constitution should provide for by the year 2020. It also suggests strategy for how liberal lawyers and judges might bring such a constitutional regime into being.

Just before his appearance at the conference, Sunstein wrote a blog entry in which he explained he "will be urging that it is important to resist, on democratic grounds, the idea that the document should be interpreted to reflect the view of the extreme right-wing of the Republican Party."

Pelosi says new tax is 'on the table'

By Michael O'Brien

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/61783-pelosi-says-new-tax-is-on-the-table

A new value-added tax (VAT) is "on the table" to help the U.S. address its fiscal liabilities, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Monday night.

Pelosi, appearing on PBS's "The Charlie Rose Show" asserted that "it's fair to look at" the VAT as part of an overhaul of the nation's tax code.

"I would say, Put everything on the table and subject it to the scrutiny that it deserves," Pelosi told Rose when asked if the VAT has any appeal to her.

The VAT is a tax on manufacturers at each stage of production on the amount of value an additional producer adds to a product.

Pelosi argued that the VAT would level the playing field between U.S. and foreign manufacturers, the latter of which do not have pension and healthcare costs included in the price of their goods because their governments provide those services, financed by similar taxes.

"They get a tax off of that and they use that money to pay the healthcare for their own workers," Pelosi said, using the example of auto manufacturers. "So their cars coming into our country don't have a healthcare component cost.

"Somewhere along the way, a value-added tax plays into this. Of course, we want to take down the healthcare cost, that's one part of it," the Speaker added. "But in the scheme of things, I think it's fair look at a value- added tax as well."

Pelosi said that any new taxes would come after the Congress finishes the healthcare debate consuming most lawmakers' time, and that it may come as part of a larger overhaul to the tax code.

The Speaker also emphasized that any reworking of the tax code would not result in an increase in taxes on middle-class Americans.

Libya Tries to Force ‘Israeli War Crimes’ Report Onto Security Council Agenda

By Patrick Goodenough, International Editor

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/55155

(CNSNews.com) – Less than a week after the U.N. Human Rights Council agreed to defer for six months a report accusing Israel of war crimes in Gaza, Libya sought Wednesday to bypass that decision by bringing the matter before the U.N. Security Council instead.

Libya, one of the Security Council’s 10 non-permanent members, pressed for an emergency council session to discuss the Goldstone report.

The council instead agreed to discuss it at a monthly meeting on the situation in the Middle East, and to bring that meeting a week forward, to next Wednesday.

The 575-page report, compiled for the Human Rights Council (HRC) by a fact-finding mission headed by South African judge Richard Goldstone, says that actions taken by Israel during its offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip last winter amounted to war crimes and, possibly, crimes against humanity. It said the Palestinian terrorist group also committed was crimes.

Goldstone recommended that unless the Israelis and Palestinians launch independent investigations within six months that are deemed to be effective and genuine, the Security Council should refer the allegations to International Criminal Court prosecutors.

The report was brought before the HRC in Geneva last week and Israel rejected it, saying it had its own reviews and investigations into the conduct of the offensive underway.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said in Jerusalem that adoption of the report would harm the war against terror by legitimizing “terrorists who fire upon civilians and who hide behind civilians.” He also warned that the move would “strike a fatal blow to the peace process.”

The United States was also critical of the report, and argued that the matter should be handled by the HRC, not be referred to other agencies.

Following intense U.S. lobbying focused on the Palestinian Authority (P.A.), Arab and Islamic states at the HRC reluctantly agreed not to push ahead with a resolution endorsing the report in full.

In order to give more time for “broad based and comprehensive consideration” of the Goldstone report, they said they would defer the move until the council’s next session in March.

Since that decision was taken last Friday, West Bank-based P.A. Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has faced a barrage of condemnation at home. Palestinians academics and activists, including members of Abbas’ Fatah faction, voiced outrage at what they view as capitulation to the U.S. and Israel.

Fatah’s rival, Hamas, also criticized the move, calling it “shameful” and labeling Abbas a traitor. Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since violently expelling Fatah in mid-2007, also warned that it would derail Egyptian-brokered reconciliation talks between the two factions, aimed at forming a unity government. A deal was due to have been signed on Oct. 26.

Although Hamas is also accused in the report of war crimes – for indiscriminately targeting Israeli civilians with rockets – it wants to see it taken further so that, in the words of Hamas official Fawzi Barhoum, Israeli leaders can be “brought before international courts as war criminals.” Most of the report focuses on Israel.

Beyond the Palestinian self-rule areas, criticism has also come from around the region, with officials in Egypt, Syria, Qatar and Iran among those expressing disapproval of the deferral decision.

Amid the furor and calls for Abbas’ resignation, a senior P.A. official said Wednesday that agreeing to defer action on the report had been a mistake. In a new shift, the P.A. threw its support behind the Libyan initiative at the Security Council.

While the council has agreed to bring forward its monthly meeting on the Middle East, it remains unclear how big a part of that meeting’s agenda will be taken up by the Goldstone report.

Speaking after Wednesday’s closed-door discussions, U.S. ambassador Alejandro Wolff told reporters that the report “is not before the Security Council.”

He acknowledged, however, that at next Wednesday’s meeting on the Middle East situation, “all delegations are free, as they always are each month, to raise whatever issue they think are pertinent to that issue.”

“On the question of the Goldstone report, that is a report mandated by the Human Rights Council, a new body that needs to be allowed to do its work.”

However, Libyan ambassador Abdurrahman Shalgham said the report would be debated openly, and vowed the “keep the momentum” going.

Eying the ICC

Security Council referral of Israel to the ICC would be a major victory for Palestinian and other advocacy groups which have been trying to get the tribunal to investigate complaints against Israel via alternative routes.

ICC prosecutors at first said they had no jurisdiction over Israel, which is not a party to the 1998 Rome Statute which created the court. Then early this year they said they would examine whether the P.A. was legally competent to accept the jurisdiction of the court, which could open another route to ICC action.

The ICC was established in 2002 to deal with cases of genocide, crimes against humanity and other violations. Washington opposed the initiative, concerned that it would be used to bring politically-motivated cases against Americans – especially U.S. troops abroad.

Although Israel for almost half a century promoted the notion of an international court to punish war crimes and genocide, in 1998 it voted against the Rome Statute because of the inclusion – at the instigation of Arab states led by Egypt – of a category of offence involving the movement of a country’s citizens to occupied territory.

Dept. of Homeland Security WANTS Illegal Aliens Here

by texan2driver

It doesn’t get any more obvious than this that Obama and our government have no intentions of stopping illegal immigration. The first smackdown scarecrow came under Bush when the two border agents were jailed for doing their jobs. Now Obama is preventing local and state agencies from doing what the federal government refuses to do.

When the federal government, led by Barack Hussein Obama, and its agencies such as the Department of “Justice” (headed by Obama appointed Eric Holder) and the Department of “Homeland Security” (headed by Obama appointed Janet Napoli-Reno) ARE NOT and WILL NOT enforce our immigration laws, and they are doing everything possible to prevent local and state agencies from enforcing those laws, how in the name of all that is good and holy are we supposed to stop illegal immigration?

If the government has any say about it, we won’t be allowed to stop it. Politicians in Washington in BOTH parties have been obstructing efforts to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country. This ties into the issues of healthcare, and every other government run program where tax payer money is being given to non-citizens who do not deserve, nor should they be eligible to receive any of these benefits. America can’t afford to continue this practice, and American citizens and tax payers don’t deserve to be treated this way.

Feds limit Ariz. sheriff's crackdown on illegal immigrants

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will continue his controversial "crime suppression operations" despite a Department of Homeland Security decision to strip him of authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status, the East Valley Tribune reports.

“It’s all politics,” says Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County.

Arpaio will still have the power to check the immigration status of people booked by his officers, but not the authority to conduct street patrols looking for illegal immigrants.

His “crime suppression operations” are saturation patrols in designated areas where deputies would find illegal immigrants by stopping them for traffic infractions and minor violations, the paper says.

The Department of Justice and other federal agencies are investigating the sheriff’s office on accusations of racial profiling during the operations, the paper says.

Arpaio said he will be able to still conduct the crime sweeps under state human smuggling laws and an obscure federal law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants.

A spokesman for the Phoenix office of ICE declined to comment until after pending agreements with the country are signed.
