Excessive spending on Capitol Hill did not start yesterday!” In the fall of 1978, the now late Rep. W.G. “Bill” Hefner (D-NC-8) was holding an open “Town Hall” forum in the Monroe, NC City Council Chambers and much of local citizens’ concern focused on Capitol Hill’s excessive government spending. The now late Hazel Giles of Monroe, NC stood up and asked Rep. Hefner to start a Constitutional Amendment for a “Balanced Budget”. Rep. Hefner’s response was that a Constitutional Amendment would take too long. Mr. Hazel Giles replied that if he, Rep. Hefner, would start a Constitutional Amendment right now, the excessive government spending would be solved in a few years.
In earlier years, state, county, and municipal governments maintained insurance to protect their respective locales. Additionally, these same governments held an adequate sum in reserves to cover unexpected emergencies. Projects, otherwise, had to wait as determined by necessities. Times have changed as members in the US Senate and Congress have practiced “on call” upon any wish for a telephone call from local leaders for many various “grants on request”. As re-elections arrived, these same Capitol Hill legislators who wrote, presented, advanced, and voted on all to spend (y)our taxpayers’ money returned to these same communities “boastful” how they sent federal monies to these communities. It was presented as if the “Grants” came from all others; not you and me. These legislators were seeking political funds for their re-election. These same Capitol Hill legislators never mentioned that other Capitol Hill legislators were doing likewise, running up the National debt, at “(y)our expense”.
For the USA to remain solvent, the time for a Constitutional Amendment has arrived as an absolute essential. Over the last many years, members of the US Senate and US Congress on Capitol Hill have tried to provide “all the money” to become “all the solutions” for “all the people” “all the time”; without any regard of cost at taxpayers’ expense. Now, the “mounting debt”, at taxpayers’ expense, is due. President Obama and most Capitol Hill Democrats still demand more out-of-control spending. When will it end?
Our USA “financial crisis” has arrived. Americans are aware, are awakening, and now understand the economic uncertainties. America is desperate for a “Balanced Budget” Constitutional Amendment. The GOP in the US House is now on the “right” quest to stop the out-of-control spending for restoring America’s fiscal responsibility.
