"The Patriot Post"

"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." -- James Madison

"It really is difficult to imagine how people who have entirely given up managing their own affairs could make a wise choice of those who are to do that for them. One should never expect a liberal, energetic, and wise government to originate in the votes of a people of servants." -- French political thinker and historian Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859)

"One of the most important events of our lifetimes may have just transpired. A federal agency has decided that it has the power to regulate everything, including the air you breathe. Nominally, the Environmental Protection Agency's announcement ... only applies to new-car emissions. But pretty much everyone agrees that the ruling opens the door to regulating, well, everything. According to the EPA, greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide -- the gas you exhale -- as well as methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride. It is literally impossible to imagine a significant economic or human activity that does not involve the production of one of these gases. Don't think just of the gas and electricity bills. Cow flatulence is a serious concern of the EPA's already. What next? ... Whether or not global warming is a crisis that warrants immediate, drastic action (I don't think it does), and whether or not such wholesale measures would be an economic calamity (they would be), the EPA's decision should be disturbing to people who believe in democratic, constitutional government. ...[T]he EPA has launched its power grab over all that burns, breathes, burps, flies, drives and passes gas." -- National Review editor Jonah Goldberg

"If torturing terrorists works -- as the Obama administration had to admit grudgingly [last] week -- is it okay? No, of course not, the chattering class proudly concluded. One wonders why. What do they care? Having already accepted abortion and euthanasia -- which are nothing more than the expedient killing of the unborn and the elderly -- why should the expedient torture of terrorists, a lesser evil, trouble them? Oh, that's right: the terrorists are guilty and the guilty under the ministrations of modern liberalism never suffer. Pain in modern life is for the innocent. Terrorists, we're told by pro-abortion liberals, suffer excruciating pain while the ejected unborn and euthanized elderly feel nothing. And even if the latter do suffer pain, say these liberals, that pain is worth it. After all, abortion and euthanasia sustain a pleasant and peaceful lifestyle for the strong. Let the dead bury the dead. ... Obama's liberalism is not an opponent of human rights abuses but an embodiment of them. The CIA restricts itself to methods far less ruthless than those permitted by the platform of the Democratic Party. When will Obama bring his own platform into line with the Geneva Accords? It is a little late in the day for Obama to worry about America's moral reputation. Resisting evil even 'when it is hard' hasn't interested liberalism for at least four decades. It rests on an ideology of expedient evil and crass utilitarianism." -- Catholic World Report editor George Neumayr

"The debate over the just-released Justice Department memorandums on interrogation techniques ended as soon as they were dubbed the 'torture memos.' ... Rightly considered, the memos should be a source of pride. They represent a nation of laws struggling to defend itself against a savage, lawless enemy while adhering to its legal commitments and norms. Most societies throughout human history wouldn't have bothered. ... If we had a more mature political culture, this and other questions could be examined thoroughly by a special congressional committee. (As it happens, the CIA produced a memo on the benefits of the interrogation program that has never been released.) But such an inquiry inevitably would descend into a hyperpoliticized takedown of the CIA and the Bush Justice Department for 'war crimes.' The frenzied reception of the 'torture memos' is just a preview." -- National Review editor Rich Lowry

"We maintain our strength in order to deter and defend against aggression -- to preserve freedom and peace. Since the dawn of the atomic age, we've sought to reduce the risk of war by maintaining a strong deterrent and by seeking genuine arms control. 'Deterrence' means simply this: making sure any adversary who thinks about attacking the United States, or our allies, or our vital interests, concludes that the risks to him outweigh any potential gains. Once he understands that, he won't attack. We maintain the peace through our strength; weakness only invites aggression." -- Ronald Reagan

Expert: China Controls Future of U.S. Dollar

For some time, I have been saying our American economy is at the mercy of the Chinese, as China has more dollars to spare than America. China has maneuvered to the front line in worldwide manufacturing. With that, China has captured the US dollars as America purchases Chinese products. With China's US dollars, they have in return loaned Americans these extra dollars and/or purchased bonds With the spending within the Obama administration, and on Capitol Hill, the only way for America to ever repay China and America's taxpayers is to create inflation, which will devalue the US dollar. The question is, Is the average American even aware that the US economy is at the mercy of China? - oyh

China will shy away from the dollar, causing a collapse for the U.S. currency, predicts Andy Xie, an independent economist who was formerly chief Asia Pacific economist for Morgan Stanley.

The U.S. government’s move to inflate itself out of recession is “pushing China towards developing an alternative financial system,” Xie writes in the Financial Times.

“For the past two decades China’s entry into the global economy rested [partly] on … pegging the renminbi to the dollar,” he explains.

“The dollar peg allowed China to leverage the U.S. financial system for its international needs, while domestic finance remained state-controlled.”

Xie writes, “This dual approach has worked remarkably well. China could have its cake and eat it too.”

But China knows it must one day become independent of the dollar.

“Its recent decision to turn Shanghai into a financial centre by 2020 reflects China’s anxiety over relying on the dollar system,” Xie explains.

“The year 2020 seems remote,” he points out.

“However, if global stagflation takes hold, as I expect it to, it will force China to accelerate its reforms to float its currency and create a…market-based financial system.”

Result: “The dollar will collapse,” Xie says.

Others don’t expect the dollar to go away so quickly. China recently proposed that the IMF’s special drawing right replace the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

The SDR is “basically the Esperanto, at best, of international currencies,” Harvard economist Jeffrey Frankel told The Wall Street Journal.

Miss USA (almost)

Dr. Ray Pritchard
Author, Speaker, President of Keep Believing Ministries
http://www.crosswalk.com/spirituallife/women/11602605/

By now the whole inhabited world, by which I mean those who watch TV and follow the Internet, knows about Carrie Prejean who almost became Miss USA the other night but ended up in second place presumably because of how she answered a question from a strange fellow named Perez Hilton about gay marriage. Although Miss Prejean’s answer was not a model of clarity (pageant answers generally being of the “I favor world peace” variety), she was clear enough in defending the traditional view of marriage as being one man and one woman.

Last night I watched her interview with Sean Hannity. Miss Prejean comes across as a sincere 21-year-old who decided that it was better to be true to her faith even if it meant losing the Miss USA crown. Well, good for her. We need Christians who will not sell out their convictions or mumble a bunch of politically correct nonsense.

She is, by the way, a student at San Diego Christian College, formerly Christian Heritage College, founded by (among others) Tim LaHaye and the late Henry Morris.

A few quick notes about the controversy . . .

1. If you watch the video carefully, you can hear loud clapping when she gave her answer. That reinforces the notion that many people do not support gay marriage. Even in liberal California, Proposition 8 won last November.

2. We shouldn’t be surprised that Miss Prejean has been pilloried by the mainstream media. Anyone who dares to speak out in favor of traditional values will run the same gauntlet.

3. Nevertheless by keeping her cool under enormous pressure, she gains support from millions of people. And if she had caved and given some mumbo-jumbo answer, she might have won the pageant and would have disappeared from the cultural radar. Better in this case to speak your convictions firmly and politely and leave the results in God’s hands.

4. She illustrates the need for Christians with tenacious, winsome courage. Tenacious meaning we won’t give up. Courage meaning we speak out when the time comes. Winsome meaning we speak with a smile, not a frown.

5. When asked about controversial matters, we would all do well to take the “Joe Friday” approach: “Just the facts, Ma’am.” Brief is better. Just say what you believe, don’t make a big deal about it, and don’t try to explain it or nuance it. Short and simple with a smile wins the day.

6. Ironically, Miss Prejean won by losing. That often happens when we respond to provocation with grace under pressure.

One final point, which I hesitate to mention because it injects an unhappy note into the proceedings. Nearly all the news reports show the video of Miss Prejean in an extremely skimpy white bikini that all the pageant contestants were required to wear. It looked like sexy underwear, which is how it was supposed to look.

I guess by now we’re all supposed to be used to this sort of thing and think nothing of it. But still it bothered me. I wouldn’t want my daughters parading in public dressed like that. Hmmm. I sound like those old-time preachers, don’t I? But I think they were more right than wrong about stuff like this.

While that part doesn’t help the cause, I am happy to commend Miss Prejean for sticking up for what she believes. By speaking out in favor of traditional marriage, she took a strong stand in favor of the truth, and for that she deserves our applause.

ACORN Charged with Vote Fraud

ACORN, a group funded with taxpayers money by President Obama's earmark, is using (y)our money to fight these allegations of voter fraud. - oyh

http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/us_voter_fraud_probe/2009/05/04/210527.html?s=al&promo_code=7F31-1

LAS VEGAS -- Nevada authorities are accusing the political advocacy group ACORN and two former employees of illegally paying canvassers to sign up new voters last year.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto filed charges Monday alleging the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now had policies requiring employees in Las Vegas to sign up 20 new voters per day or be fired.

Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller and Masto say that's voter registration fraud, and it violates state law banning quotas for registering new voters.

A criminal complaint filed in Las Vegas Justice Court accuses ACORN and two former employees of 39 low-level felonies.

ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson in New York blames rogue former employees for the allegations. He says ACORN will fight the charges in court.

92 year old preacher

To have the faith of a child… 92 Year Old Preacher

While watching a little TV on Sunday instead of going to church, I watched a church in Atlanta honoring one of its senior pastors who had been retired many years. He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the church even bothered to ask the old gentleman to preach at that age.

After a warm welcome, introduction of this speaker, and as the applause quieted down, he rose from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gate to the podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and slowly he began to speak....

"When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50-odd years of preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heartbreak and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me... the only thing that would comfort was this verse...

"Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong,
we are weak but He is strong...
Yes, Jesus loves me...
The Bible tells me so."

When he finished, the church was quiet. You actually could hear his foot steps as he shuffled back to his chair. I don't believe I will ever forget it.

A pastor once stated, "I always noticed that it was the adults who chose the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see they knew it the best."

"Senior version of Jesus Loves Me"

Here is a new version just for us who have white hair or no hair at all. For us over middle age (or even those almost there) and all you others, check out this newest version of Jesus Loves Me.

JESUS LOVES ME

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow.
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.

(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.

(CHORUS)

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."

(CHORUS)

When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.

(CHORUS)

I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.

(CHORUS)

If you think this is neat, please pass it on to your friends. If you do not pass it on, nothing bad will happen, but you will have missed an opportunity to "reach out and touch" a friend or a loved one.

God Bless Us All!!!

“How Would You Fix the Economy?”

By RhondaDuffy

This is from an article in the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on am idea to change the Economy.

Dear Mr. President:

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America ’s economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the
following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered-
Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.
It can’t get any easier than that!

If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their constituents pay their taxes…

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

If not, please disregard.

Hawaiian Vacation

Two priests decided to go to Hawaii on vacation. They were determined to make this a real vacation by not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy. As soon as the plane landed, they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, sunglasses, etc.

The next morning, they went to the beach, dressed in their "tourist" and the scenery when a "drop dead gorgeous" topless blonde in a thong bikini came walking straight towards them.

They couldn't help but stare. As the blonde passed them, she smiled and said "good morning, Father, good morning, Father", nodding and addressing each of them individually, then passed on by. They were both stunned. How in the world did she know ! they were priests?

So the next day, they went back to the store and bought even more outrageous outfits. These were so loud you could hear them before you even saw them.

Once again the two priests in mufti settled on the beach in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine. After a while, the same gorgeous topless blonde, wearing a string, taking her sweet time, came walking toward them. Again she nodded at each of them, said "good morning, Father" and started to walk away.

One of the priests couldn't stand it any longer and said. "Just a minute young lady."

"Yes?" she replied.

"We are priests, and proud of it, but I have to know, how in the world did you know we are priests dressed as we are?"

"Father, it's me, Sister Angela," she replied.

Never Argue with a Woman Who Reads

One beautiful morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake and fishing rules, the wife decides to take the fishing boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, 'Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?'

'Reading a book,' she replies, (thinking, isn’t that obvious?)

'You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her

'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing.. I'm reading'

'Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up.'

'For reading a book,' she replies,

'You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her again.

'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading'

'Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up.'

'If you do that, I'll have to charge you with Sexual assault,' says the woman.

'But I haven't even touched you,' says the game warden.

'That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.'

'Have a nice day ma'am,' and he left.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.
