CHECK BEFORE YOU ACT!

Check decisions and planned activities for “rightness” before implementing them. Use the questions below (or similar ones supplied by your organization) as your litmus test. Answering “no” to one or more of the following would suggest the need to either develop an alternative strategy or to seek counsel and advice from appropriate sources:

THE ETHICAL ACTION TEST

A. Is it legal?
B. Does it comply with our rules and guidelines?
C. Is it in sync with our organizational values?
D. Will I be comfortable and guilt-free if I do it?
E. Does it match our stated commitments and guarantees?
F. Would I do it to my family or friends?
G. Would I be perfectly okay with someone doing it to me?
H. Would the most ethical person I know do it?

"Daily Devotions" (KJV and/or NLT)

...we Christians receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith. (Galatians 3:14)

To experience true life, we must continue the Christian journey the same way we began it---by faith. Only God could save us, and only God can empower us to live a victorious Christian life. We are able to move beyond the limitations of our senses and circumstances the same way we were made spiritually alive: not by relying on ourselves, but by putting our faith in Christ and depending on the Holy Spirit's provision, power, guidance, and protection moment by moment.

We cannot live an abundant, effective Christian life without the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is our example. The Holy Spirit was intimately involved in every aspect of His life and ministry.

Jesus declared through the words of the prophet Isaiah, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the year of the Lord's favor will come." (Luke 4:18-19).

But the Holy Spirit does not wish to call attention to Himself. He is the enabler, the empowerer, the equipper, the counselor, and the helper. He desires to promote the work of God the Father and glorify Christ (John 16:13, 14).

What an amazing privilege to have the same Holy Spirit who empowered our Savior living inside us. Only through the supernatural presence of the Holy Spirit can we experience a supernatural life because the Holy Spirit works in us to reflect Christ in our lives.

Your View of God Really Matters …

Do you rely on the Spirit of God to live His life through you or do you try to please God by giving it your very best? Today, don't ask God to bless your best efforts, rather, ask God to live through you by His Spirit.

Editorial Exegesis

The health care summit is an "evil" trap"A mere three days before President Obama's supposedly bipartisan health-care summit, the White House [Monday] released a new blueprint that Democrats say they will ram through Congress with or without Republican support. So after election defeats in Virginia, New Jersey and even Massachusetts, and amid overwhelming public opposition, Democrats have decided to give the voters what they don't want anyway. Ah, the glory of 'progressive' governance and democratic consent. 'The President's Proposal,' as the 11-page White House document is headlined, is in one sense a notable achievement: It manages to take the worst of both the House and Senate bills and combine them into something more destructive. It includes more taxes, more subsidies and even less cost control than the Senate bill. And it purports to fix the special-interest favors in the Senate bill not by eliminating them -- but by expanding them to everyone. ... The larger political message of this new proposal is that Mr. Obama and Democrats have no intention of compromising on an incremental reform, or of listening to Republican, or any other, ideas on health care. They want what they want, and they're going to play by Chicago Rules and try to dragoon it into law on a narrow partisan vote via Congressional rules that have never been used for such a major change in national policy. If you want to know why Democratic Washington is 'ungovernable,' this is it." --The Wall Street Journal

Insight

"The state tends to expand in proportion to its means of existence and to live beyond its means, and these are, in the last analysis, nothing but the substance of the people. Woe to the people that cannot limit the sphere of action of the state! Freedom, private enterprise, wealth, happiness, independence, personal dignity, all vanish." --French economist Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)

"People unfit for freedom -- who cannot do much with it -- are hungry for power. The desire for freedom is an attribute of a 'have' type of self. It says: leave me alone and I shall grow, learn, and realize my capacities. The desire for power is basically an attribute of a 'have not' type of self." --writer and philosopher Eric Hoffer (1902-1983)

"The world is weary of statesmen whom democracy has degraded into politicians." --British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881)

Upright

"Offering 'comprehensive' reform usually means years of arguing and horse-trading among pressure groups to get anything done. By the time all the special interests are appeased or bought off, the resulting elephantine legislation typically looks nothing like what was intended. In short, big-government medicine usually doesn't work on big-government sickness. If President Obama wants 'comprehensive' change, it would be better simply not to spend any more money we don't have." --historian Victor Davis Hanson

"[Barack Obama failed to sell a health care reform plan to American voters] because the utter implausibility of its central promise -- expanded coverage at lower cost -- led voters to conclude that it would lead ultimately to more government, more taxes and more debt." --columnist Charles Krauthammer

"Don't ever let anyone tell you that history doesn't repeat. For 70 years, liberals have been spinning the yarn that FDR's New Deal, despite all the evidence that it exacerbated and prolonged the Great Depression, quickened our economic recovery. Indeed, I remember scratching my head when one of my college history professors in the 1970s tried to convince us of that theory and its corollary -- an even better howler -- that FDR was actually a conservative, because if he hadn't implemented his socialist programs, the republic would have died right there." --columnist David Limbaugh

"This is a perfect snapshot of the West at twilight. On the one hand, governments of developed nations microregulate every aspect of your life in the interests of 'keeping you safe.' ... On the other hand, when it comes to 'keeping you safe' from real threats, such as a millenarian theocracy that claims universal jurisdiction, America and its allies do nothing. ... It is now certain that Tehran will get its nukes, and very soon. This is the biggest abdication of responsibility by the Western powers since the 1930s." --columnist Mark Steyn

"In the early aftermath of the suicidal pilot's attack [in Austin], there was no evidence that Stack belonged to a Tea Party organization. In any case, no law-abiding Tea Party group would ever condone what he did. But it didn't stop the haters from immediately smearing advocates of limited government. And it's just the latest in a long line of calculated attempts to paint the vast majority of peaceful Tea Party activists as terrorist threats to civil society. ... The smear merchants, of course, are simply following Rahm Emanuel's advice to exploit every crisis." --columnist Michelle Malkin

"Why should we capitalists go green? To do so is simply to exchange our technological, industrial, and energy superiority for a lie. ... Capitalism is about progressing via the ingenuity and excellence of minds unfettered by government regulations and interference. But environmentalism based on the man-made global warming theory is about regressing from the advances that unfettered minds have made. It's also about pushing the government to regulate and interfere at every step along the way." --columnist AWR Hawkins

House Budget Committee Votes Against Including Stupak Amendment in Health-Care Reconciliation Bill

By Terence P. Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief

(CNSNews.com) - The House Budget Committee voted 19-17 Monday night against recommending that the Stupak-Pitts Amendment be included in the health-care reconciliation bill that the full House is likely to consider later this week. The amendment would ban funding of abortion through federally subsidized health care plans.

While debating the Stupak-Pitts Amendment in the committee, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio)—who was not present—and others who took his position that the Senate health-care bill needed to be amended to prevent federal funding of abortion had “willfully continued to repeat falsehoods about” the status of abortion funding in that bill.

DeLauro contended that the Senate bill did not allow federal funding of abortion. “Holding up this bill to play politics on the abortion issue is emphatically not a pro-life stance,” she said.

The reconciliation bill is designed to amend the full health-care bill that passed the Senate in December and, together with that bill, enact the dramatic restructuring of the nation’s health-care system sought by President Obama and the Democratic leadership.

The Senate health-care bill would allow people to use federal subsidies to buy health insurance plans that cover abortions, while insisting that everyone who buys such a plan must pay at least one dollar of their own money in a special supplemental premium, under the theory that this particular dollar—and not the many federal tax dollars flowing into the same insurance plan—would cover any abortions the plan funds.

The version of the health-care plan that passed the House in November included an amendment sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) and Joe Pitts (R-Pa.) that would ban any federal funds from paying for any part of any health care plan that covers abortions. The Stupak-Pitts Amendment mirrors the language of the Hyde Amendment that has been included in various annual federal appropriations bills for more than three decades. The Hyde Amendment itself will not apply to the new health-care programs initiated under the Senate health-care bill because they will not be funded through annual appropriations.

The Budget Committee met Monday afternoon and evening to consider amendments to a draft of the health-care reconciliation bill. The amendments approved by the Budget Committee are considered non-binding recommendations to the House Rules Committee, which is expected to approve a final version of the reconciliation bill later this week.

If the Stupak-Pitts Amendment is not included in the reconciliation bill, and the reconciliation bill becomes law, the new federal health-care system created by the combination of the Senate bill and the reconciliation bill would in fact allow tax dollars to fund health care plans that cover abortions.

Three Budget Committee Democrats voted to recommend that the Rules Committee include the Stupak-Pitts Amendment in the final version of the bill. They were Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D.-Ohio), Rep. Marion Berry (D-Ark.) and Rep. Jim Langevin (R.I.). One Republican, Rep. Scott Garrett (N.J.), did not vote on the amendment.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) introduced the amendment in the committee. The Senate health-care bill, Jordan said, “represents the largest threat to innocent human life since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Court."

The Stupak-Pitts Amendment, he said, “simply says that no federal dollars can go to pay for abortion or subsidize a plan that covers abortion. This continues the current policy under the Hyde Amendment, and makes sure that it is permanently applied to any health care reform law.”

Rep. DeLauro spoke adamantly against the amendment, insisting that the Senate health care bill already barred abortion funding. “I will say it one more time, since for some reason too many of our colleagues have not gotten the message, or like Congressman Boehner, have willfully continued to repeat falsehoods about it,” said DeLauro. “Other than the situations excepted by the Hyde language as has been the case for years now, no federal funds are used for abortion, or can be used for abortion in this health-care package.”

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has sided with Boehner not DeLauro (both of whom are Catholic) on this question.

“Disappointingly, the Senate-passed bill in particular does not meet our moral criteria on life and conscience,” the bishops said in a Jan. 26 letter to members of the Senate.

“Specifically, it violates the longstanding federal policy against the use of federal funds for elective abortions and health plans that include such abortions—a policy upheld in all health programs covered by the Hyde Amendment as well as in the Children’s Health Insurance Program, the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, and now in the House-passed Affordable Health Care for America Act. We believe legislation that fails to comply with this policy and precedent is not true health care reform and should be opposed until this fundamental problem is remedied.”

Morning Bell: Is Now Really the Time To Create a New $2.5 Trillion Entitlement?

http://blog.heritage.org/2010/03/16/morning-bell-is-now-really-the-time-to-create-a-new-2-5-trillion-entitlement/?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Morning%2BBell

In theory, the federal government has $2.5 trillion stashed away in a nondescript office building in the sleepy little town of Parkersburg, West Virginia. That is where the Treasury Department keeps stacks of nonnegotiable Treasury bonds payable to the Social Security Administration. But as the Associated Press reported yesterday, for the first time since the 1980s, the federal government will not be adding to that stack. Thanks to an aging population and slow economy, Social Security will pay out $29 billion more this year than it takes in. And the Congressional Budget Office reports that after small surpluses in 2014 and 2015, the program is projected to be in the red from 2016 until forever.

But what about Al Gore’s Social Security “Lock Box?” Can’t we just spend that $2.5 trillion in the Social Security Trust Fund? As Heritage experts David John and Brian Reidl explain, since 1939 federal law has required Social Security to “invest” its extra money in Treasury bonds. Those bonds are really just IOUs from the government to the government. The feds already spent that $2.5 trillion long ago on programs such as education, foreign aid and defense. Add the $2.5 trillion Social Security obligation onto our other obligations and our current national debt stands at $12.5 trillion, or nearly $42,000 for every man, woman, and child in the country. And it will only get worse under President Barack Obama’s Budget. It would: 1) borrow 42 cents for each dollar spent in 2010; 2) leave permanent annual deficits that top $1 trillion as late as 2020; and 3) dump an additional $74,000 per household of debt into the laps of our children and grandchildren.

Responding to such unsustainable borrowing, Moody’s rating agency announced Monday that the United States needs to make deep spending cuts or risk losing its AAA credit rating. From the report: “growth alone will not resolve an increasingly complicated debt equation. Preserving debt affordability at levels consistent with AAA ratings will invariably require fiscal adjustments of a magnitude that, in some cases, will test social cohesion.”

Losing our AAA rating would send interest rates higher, increase our borrowing costs, and send the percentage of GDP we spend servicing our debt sky rocketing. Bloomberg adds: “the U.S. will spend more on debt service as a percentage of revenue this year than any other top-rated country except the U.K., and will be the biggest spender from 2011 to 2013.” The message from Moody’s was clear: the U.S. federal government must change direction on spending or face economic disaster.

The leftist majorities in Congress and the White House are not listening. Instead of reining in federal spending and tackling our existing Entitlement crisis, they are locked in an all out push to create a brand new $2.5 trillion health care entitlement. The President may say his plan is deficit neutral, but the American people do not believe him. And they are wise not to. The President tries to pay for his plan with over half a trillion dollars in Medicare cuts over the next decade. The president’s own Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reports that these cuts would cause one-fifth of all health care providers to go bankrupt. Congress would never allow those hospitals to go out of business. Congress will never actually make those Medicare cuts. So already Obamacare is half a trillion dollars in the red, and we haven’t even tacked on the hundreds of billion of dollars the doc fix adds on.

Reducing our entitlement obligations is the only way to prevent our nation from becoming another Greece. We need to: 1) to show these programs’ long-term obligations in the budget; target these programs to only who that need them; and strengthen personal responsibility by making it easier for people to build personal retirement savings and use health care savings accounts. But first we must avoid the fiscal insanity that is Obamacare.

Liberalism takes hit in textbook debate

Bill Bumpas - OneNewsNow

http://www.onenewsnow.com/Education/Default.aspx?id=935456

So far, so good - that's the message from conservatives as the Texas State Board of Education works to set curriculum standards for social studies that could have a national effect within the next decade.

Decisions made by the Board affect textbook content nationwide because the Lone Star State is one of the biggest clients for school book publishers. Jonathan Saenz, director of legislative affairs for Liberty Institute, testified at the Board hearing along with numerous concerned teachers and parents.

"Their message was, 'Keep the concepts of American exceptionalism and preserve the Judeo-Christian values that have had an impact on our law and government. Do not take that kind of information out; don't take out some of our notable leaders,'" Saenz reports. "And a lot of those corrections and changes have been made - a lot of good progress. There's still some work to be done, and so it's been very encouraging thus far."

The legislative affairs director adds that liberalism has taken a big hit.

"The effort by the extreme left to indoctrinate, infiltrate and really saturate the social study standards with liberal ideology...has failed thus far, and we're thinking that trend is going to continue," he notes.

The new standards set by the Texas State Board of Education will be finalized in May and used in textbooks that would appear in the state's classrooms in 2013.

The Healthcare Bill Would Be Obama’s ‘Enabling Act’

by Michael Zak

http://biggovernment.com/mzak/2010/03/13/the-healthcare-bill-would-be-obamas-enabling-act/

Why are Barack Obama and other Democrat leaders so intent on passing a government takeover of healthcare now…Now…NOW?

They must know that costs will rise and the quality of care will fall, right? They must know that Obamacare would destroy the economy, right? Of course they do. But, they also know that the federal government would tighten its grip on the nation. They know that Obama’s czars and other appointees would be authorized to bypass Congress in enacting sweeping regulations on nearly every aspect of a person’s life. And, they know that these new powers of the federal government would be concentrated in the hands of the Democratic Party and the President.

Here’s what else they know. History affords many examples of regimes whose motto was “Never let a crisis go to waste.” In 1933, having campaigned for “hope” and “change,” the National Socialist Worker’s Party forced through the German parliament a Law to Remedy the Distress of the People and the Nation, also known as the Enabling Act.

This new law enabled the German chancellor and his appointees to bypass parliament in imposing sweeping regulations on the people:

“In addition to the procedure prescribed by the constitution, laws of the Reich may also be enacted by the government of the Reich [i.e., the Cabinet].”

The constitution of the Weimar Republic became so irrelevant that the new regime never saw a need to actually repeal it.

By this vote, the National Socialist Workers Party assumed absolute power and the Chancellor made history.

ACRU Cheers New Jersey Court's Approval of Menendez Recall Petition

"It's a huge win for self-government and the rule of law," says ACRU's Susan Carleson.

The Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey this morning ruled that a petition effort by two state Tea parties to recall Sen. Robert Menendez can go forward, pending an appeal by Menendez's attorney.

The 3-0 ruling by the court says that the petition drive must wait 35 days while the Menendez team decides whether to appeal.

"The ruling today recognizes that the Constitution protects the political expression of the people of New Jersey in circulating and signing recall petitions," said Peter Ferrara, General Counsel for the American Civil Rights Union (ACRU). "This is a precedent with national implications for recall efforts in other states, as well."

Immigration Reform: Terrorists Have Applied for Green Cards

by Marinka Peschmann

http://biggovernment.com/mpeschmann/2010/03/16/immigration-reform-terrorists-have-applied-for-green-cards/

Last Thursday President Obama, whose commitment to comprehensive immigration reform is “unwavering,” met with Sen. Chuck Schumer D-N.Y. and Sen. Lindsey Graham R- S.C. to discuss a proposed bill to fix the broken immigration system. While the details remain somewhat elusive, according to the Los Angles Times:

“The basis of a bill would include a path toward citizenship for the 10.8 million people living in the U.S. illegally. Citizenship would not be granted lightly, the White House said. Undocumented workers would need to register, pay taxes and pay a penalty for violating the law. Failure to comply might result in deportation.”

With the recent failures of the government agencies on full display during the failed Christmas Day bombing of flight 253, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the agency that would be responsible for processing millions of illegal aliens should a path to citizenship become law, deserves national security scrutiny. Like the State Department, the USCIS is on the front lines of America’s defence. As we now know, Hillary Clinton’s State Department revoked known al-Qaida member Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab’s, visa after he allegedly attempted to blow up an airliner with explosives in his underwear. The credit for thwarting the Christmas Day terrorist attack goes to the passengers and the crew of flight 253—not to government agencies. Under the Department of Homeland Security, the USCIS’ mission includes keeping nefarious people off U.S. soil while preserving America’s tradition as a nation of immigrants by processing lawful foreigners’ applications for visas, residency and citizenship.

According to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, Immigration Benefits: Actions Needed to Address Vulnerabilities in Process for Granting Permanent Residency, “Terrorists and other individuals posing a threat to national security have applied for lawful permanent residency–” the Green Card. The “available data” provided to the GAO found that the “USCIS background checks identified individuals who were (1) KSTs [Known or suspected terrorist], (2) associates of terrorists, (3) involved in providing material support to terrorists or terrorist organizations, and (4) agents of a foreign government involved in espionage. From March 2003 through December 1, 2007, FDNS [Office of Fraud Detection and National Security] received about 14,500 national security referrals for all application types. According to FDNS officials, about 10 percent involved individuals on TSC’s [Terrorist Screening Center ] watch list and the balance of these cases involved individuals who were not on the terrorist watch list, but whose background checks indicated other possible national security concerns, such as those having associations with known or suspected terrorists.” The same applies for the Federal Bureau of Investigations. As the GAO report documents: “In addition to identifying potential national security concerns from checking an alien’s name against watch lists in TECS [Treasury Enforcement Communications System], name checks against the FBI’s investigative files have uncovered individuals who raised national security concerns. We reviewed a random sample created by FDNS of FBI name check results provided to USCIS to ascertain the types of national security concerns identified during the name check process. We found that the FBI provided information to USCIS that these individuals:

• had associated with terrorist organizations, • were agents of foreign governments, • were involved in criminal activities, or • had engaged in espionage against the United Sates… While USCIS has some data on applicants with national security concerns, the data are limited because USCIS’s CLAIMS [Computer Linked Application Information Management System] was not designed to capture and routinely generate reports on the extent, type, and nature of national security threats posed by applicants. For example, this system does not routinely provide statistics on the visa categories used (e.g., family- or employment-based applications) and whether the immigration benefits were granted or denied. Such information could be useful to help identify the characteristics of applicants who could pose national security and terrorism-related concerns, and the avenues they may use to stay in the United States (emphasis mine).”

That said, to be fair, the GAO report noted that some action has been taken to improve the agencies performance, such as increasing staffing, but the report clearly states that the “USCIS has not completed actions necessary to address identified vulnerabilities.” A search of the GAO website shows this report, dated December 2008, is the most recent on this subject. In a side note, it is worth recalling that it was the Immigration Naturalization Services (now USCIS) that six months after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, approved two of the 9/11 hijackers, Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi for student visas. So while the Obama Administration and other lawmakers continue to push for a path to citizenship for millions of illegal aliens, they might want to check on the USCIS’ progress on addressing those GAO identified national security vulnerabilities before proceeding with any type of amnesty. The nation’s security may depend on it.

The next major immigration rally is set in Washington for March 21.

QUEEN PELOSI'S NEW JET!!!

I don't care who you are ... Democrat, Republican, or Independent.... liberal or conservative.... blue state or red state.... you have to be appalled at the sheer gall of this woman!

This is QUEEN PELOSI'S NEW JET!!! And the Democrats talk about Sarah's dresses???
Queen Pelosi wasn't happy with the small USAF C-20B jet, Gulfstream III, that comes with the Speaker'sjob... OH NO! Queen Pelosi was aggravated that this little jet had to stop to refuel,so she ordered a Big Fat, 200-seat, USAF C-32, Boeing 757 jet that could get her back to California without stopping! I understand that a former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, flew commercial most of the time.

Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed every one of what Queen Nancy's Big Fat Jet costs us(the hard working American tax payers)literally thousands of gallons of fuel everyweek.

Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California every Friday and returns every Monday, at a cost to the taxpayers (YOU and ME are those taxpayers!) of about $60,000.00 one way!

As Joe put it ..."unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday night and
that costs us another $60,000.00!" Taxpayers, that is $480,000.00 per month and that is an annual cost to us of $5,760,000.00!!!

That is Five Million, Seven Hundred Sixty Dollar’s.No wonder she complains about the cost of Iraq war ... it might cramp her style and she is stylingon my back and yours.. I think of the military families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the MOST do-nothing Congress in the history of our country, keeps fueling that jet!while doing absolutely nothing.

Queen Pelosi wants you and me to conserve our carbon footprint. She wants you and me
to buy smallercars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our tires. Who do these people thinkthey are??? Their motto is ... Don't do as I do .... JUST DO AS I SAY!

And on top of that ... now she wants to tax our IRA's &401K's! If you think this is outrageous, forward it to all those on your email list! Keep in mind the figures above DO NOT include the cost of plane or crew ... just the fuel!!! One has to wonder what thetotal package costs us?

If you agree, pass this on, if not, delete it!!!

BUT REMEMBER IF YOU DELETE THIS, that's one reason why this country is in the mess we're in now.

WE SIT BACK & JUST LET IT HAPPEN!!
