A Little Fun with Customers Can Make A Lot of Difference
Southwest Airlines employees are not expected to check their personalities at the door. They are given freedom to have fun with customers and this often takes the form of communicating important information in a humorous way. In-flight announcements and safety information are frequently presented in song.
It’s not unusual for flight attendants to belt out a tune at a moments notice. One example is a variation of the Oscar Mayer advertising jingle: “My airline has a first name – it’s S-O-U-T-H; my airline has a second name – it’s W-E-S-T. Oh I love to fly it every day, and if you ask my why I’ll say, ’cause Southwest Airlines has a way of bringing sunshine to your day!”
On one particular flight, passengers experienced a somewhat rough landing. The flight attendant came on the PA and apologized for the hard touch down. “I checked with the captain and he said it wasn’t his fault. I checked with the copilot and it wasn’t his fault, so we are going to determine that is was the asphalt.”
Airline customers, by the very nature of the business, often have reason to be disgruntled: weather delays, security requirements, disruptive children, their own hectic schedules, or perhaps challenging circumstances that precipitated their travel. Any time masses of customers become upset because of long delays, gate environments can become quite volatile. But at Southwest, gate agents are trained to bring out their humor tricks and are generally successful in “finding the kid” in their passengers.
Running silly contests like “Who has the biggest hole in your sock?” agents often have passengers take off their shoes to look. Or they might play, “Who has the most keys on their chain?” “Who has the most lipstick in their purse?” or “Who has the ugliest driver’s license photo?”
People love to be entertained, and if their “innermost kids” can be found in stressful times, challenges can actually become fun and satisfying adventures.

No, We Can't
President Obama enjoys comparing himself favorably to his predecessor. As a candidate he called the Bush Administration “one of the most secretive, closed administrations in history.” As President, Obama has pledged “an unprecedented level of openness in government.”
Unless, that is, you want to voice your opinion as a citizen on whether we should reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil by developing offshore oil and gas reserves.
Whether you’re pro or con, if you want to comment on offshore drilling, the “Yes, We Can!” Obama Administration has a simple, three-word answer for you:
No, you can’t.
The Bush Interior Department Was Open to Public Comment (Pro and Con) on Drilling
This is change alright, but not the good kind.
Last July, you may remember, President Bush rescinded the 18-year-old executive ban on offshore drilling in order to access the estimated 115 billion barrels of oil on the outer continental shelf.
The elimination of the ban kicked off a regulatory process at the Interior Department to determine where to drill. The public was invited to comment.
As part of the “Drill Here, Drill Now” campaign, American Solutions put out the call to supporters of responsible offshore drilling to make their voices heard.
The “Drill Here, Drill Now” Campaign Was a Success of Citizen Activism
The process was simple. From AmericanSolutions.com, it was just two clicks on the computer to the government officials who were determining where the new oil and gas leases would be located.
Just two steps.
The response was overwhelming. From American Solutions alone, nearly 40,000 Americans used this simple, online process to let Bush Interior Department officials know they supported safe offshore drilling. In the end, supporters of responsible domestic energy production won the comment period by a margin of 86,000 to 79,000.
And Congress responded to this outpouring of citizen support in September by letting its own moratorium on drilling expire.
The Administration That Has Promised “Unprecedented Openness” Won’t Provide an Email Address for Public Comment
So where are we today? The government has created a proposed list of offshore leasing sites, including off the coasts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and California.
And because public comments will be central in determining the fate of this plan, American Solutions once again developed a quick and easy way for Americans to weigh in online. Just go to www.yourenergyopinion.com. Enter your name, your address, and your email. Then hit “send.”
But just as soon as we were about to open this window, the Obama Administration slammed it shut.
The government that has pledged itself to “unprecedented openness” and “collaboration” with the American people has refused to provide a government email address to forward public comments to.
Instead of a Simple Email Address, You Have to Follow a Hopelessly Complicated, Ten-Step Process
Instead of this simplified process, citizens have to undertake a hopelessly complicated, difficult to follow, ten-step process that goes like this:
1. First go to http://www.regulations.gov. Notice that there is no link on that page about submitting comments on offshore drilling.
2. Instead, the next step is to click the link next to “Advanced Docket Search” under “More Search Options.”
3. Then, you have to click the drop-down menu labeled “Agency” and select “Minerals Management Service.”
4. Then, if you aren’t frustrated enough by this tedious process, you have to manually enter the identification code for offshore drilling. How do you find that? Go to the Department of the Interior and look at the Minerals Management Website.
5. Once you’ve found the code -- the easily memorized “MMS-2008-OMM-0045” -- go back to www.regulations.gov and enter it into the “Docket ID” box.
Fed up yet? You’re only halfway there.
6. Click “Submit” and wait for the system to retrieve the right regulation for you to comment on. Hopefully you entered the 16-character code correctly or else you will have to start over.
7. If you entered everything correctly, you have to click the link for the code you entered. That code again is “MMS-2008-OMM-0045.”
8. Then, you will probably see a list of results (although the system doesn’t work correctly every time and sometimes you have to resubmit everything.) In those list of results, at the top of the list is the docket ID “MMS-2008-OMM-0045-0001.” Click the yellow balloon under “Add Comments” on the same line as that ID. (Notice, too, that the ID you are commenting on isn’t even the same complicated code that you had to enter to get to this page.)
9. If you still have enough patience, fill out all of the required fields.
10. Finally, submit your comments to the Department of Interior about offshore drilling.
To Make Your Voice Heard on the Environment…You Must Hurt the Environment
Of course, if you really want to have your voice heard on offshore drilling, you could use one of the other options made available by the Obama Administration:
1. Write your opinion down on paper and spend the time and the postage it takes to use snail mail.
2. Write your opinion down on paper and travel to Virginia and deliver your comments in person.
3. Travel to one of four town meetings and hope you get called on.
Some would argue that all of these options are less cumbersome than using www.regulations.gov, but all of them are less ‘green’ than a paperless email system.
The irony: Being forced to hurt the environment to voice your opinion on the environment.
American Solutions Has Your Back
If President Obama really wants to have the most open government in American history, he should allow citizens to email their comments on offshore drilling.
It won’t necessarily distinguish him from his predecessor, but it would be the right thing to do.
While we wait for President Obama to make up his mind on what he believes, American Solutions will make sure what the American people believe is heard by President Obama.
Simply go to www.yourenergyopinion.com and enter your information and support for safe, responsible offshore drilling.
American Solutions will store your comments, and if the Obama Administration still refuses to practice the transparency they preach, we will hand deliver your letter for you to the Department of the Interior.
Announcement: I Will Be Speaking at the New York Tax Day Tea Party
April 15 is just a week away. As you prepare to pay the cost of big government next Wednesday, make sure to arrange to fight back against the high spending, high borrowing, high-taxing Obama budget by attending a Tax Day Tea Party on April 15.
The Tax Day Tea Party movement has become a nationwide, grassroots phenomenon.
I am looking forward to speaking at the New York City Tea Party. If you live in the area, I hope you will join me.
Fox’s Sean Hannity will be broadcasting live from the Tea Party in Atlanta.
American Solutions’ Dave Ryan will also be in Atlanta, and Princella Smith will be speaking at the Washington, D.C., Tea Party.
I encourage you to attend a Tea Party rally in your area. I am working with two groups to get people to the rallies.
The first group is TaxDayTeaParty.com, a broad coalition of grassroots groups which has already organized many of the Tea Parties that you probably heard about. They have already confirmed more than 400 locations in all 50 states for the April 15 Tea Parties.
The second group is TeaPartyDay.com which is a joint effort by Renewing American Leadership and the American Family Association. They are committed to bringing people of faith and their families to the Tea Parties to show support for the family budget over the federal budget. They have over 2,000 organizers in 1,800 cities on their website.
But Before You Go, Arm Yourself With the Facts
The more we learn about the Obama budget, the worse it looks. Consider these facts, compiled by the Institute for Policy Innovation:
Under the Obama budget, the Congressional Budget Office projects that the national debt will soar over the next 10 years from 40 percent of GDP today to a shocking 82.4percent. (Ronald Reagan left office with the national debt at 42 percent of GDP).
The president’s budget also states that total federal borrowing will grow by $2.7 trillion this year alone, an increase of 27 percent in one year!
The budget President Obama proposes for this year increases federal spending by an incredible 34 percent over the previous year, with a total of $4 trillion in federal spending, the highest ever.
Before you head off to a Tax Day Tea Party next Wednesday, arm yourself with the facts about the Obama budget. And remember to go to www.AmericanSolutions.com/TeaParty and get your Took Kit for Tea Parties.
Come out on April 15 and make your voice heard.

Karl Rove Calls Joe Biden 'Exaggerator,' 'Liar'
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/rove_biden_liar/2009/04/10/201836.html?s=al&promo_code=7DBF-1
By: Jim Meyers
Republican strategist Karl Rove has called Vice President Joe Biden a “liar” and a “serial exaggerator” for concocting a story about President George W. Bush “out of whole cloth.”
What set Rove off were comments Biden made in an interview with CNN on Tuesday regarding what he claimed was a meeting with President Bush in the Oval Office.
“Well, Joe, he said, I’m a leader. And I said, Mr. President, turn around and look behind you. No one’s following.”
Asked about the comments by Fox News' Megyn Kelly on Thursday, Rove — who was a close adviser to Bush — said: “It didn’t happen. I hate to say it, but he’s a serial exaggerator. If I was being unkind, I’d say he’s a liar. But it is a habit he ought to drop.
“You’ll notice every one of these incidents has the same structure. Joe Biden courageously raises the impudent question. The president befuddledly answers, and Joe Biden drives home the dramatic response. And I mean, it just — it’s his imagination. It’s a made-up, fictional world.”
Kelly asked: “So you’re saying he just made this thing up out of whole cloth with no basis in fact?”
Rove responded: “He’s making these things up out of whole cloth.”
Rove also disputed Biden’s claim that he had spent “a lot of hours alone with” Bush.
"Joe Biden was never alone with the president for more than a few moments," Rove said.
"There was staff in the room at all times…
"I think there are very few presidents who spend hours with somebody in the Oval Office, particularly a — with all due respect, a blowhard like Joe Biden."
Rove also said: “These are the kinds of things you can get away with if you are a United States senator or a backbencher in the U.S. House of Representatives. You should not exaggerate and lie like this when you’re the vice president of the United States.”
Biden spokesman Jay Carney told Fox News earlier this week: “The vice president stands by his remarks.” la Rove pointed out that Biden dropped out of the 1988 Presidential race because he was found to be plagiarizing a speech by Neil Kinnock, the leader of the British Labour Party, “and recounting an episode in Kinnock’s life as if it were in his own life.”
Biden was also criticized for claiming last July that he had been "shot at" during a trip to Iraq, Fox reported. He later amended that assertion, telling The Hill newspaper: "I was near where a shot landed.
CBC: Congressional boot-lickers
By Michelle Malkin • April 10, 2009 06:03 AM
My Good Friday column this week spotlights the religious oppression in Cuba that the Congressional Black Caucus tools of Fidel Castro choose not to see. If ignorance is bliss, the CBC members who went on tour with the tyrant are the most ecstatically happy people on the planet.
And just a reminder that I’m on a partial Easter break from the blog. Doug Powers and several Tea Party guest bloggers will be holding the fort down the next few days. Enjoy!
CBC: Congressional Boot-Lickers for Castro

Congressional Black Caucus Democrats went to Cuba to see what they wanted to see. Not since New York Times reporter Walter Duranty traipsed around Stalin’s Russia, filing cheery travelogues whitewashing Communist-engineered famine, has America witnessed such disgraceful propaganda tourism.
Led around by the nose by the Castro brothers, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver declared “if there is repression in Cuba we didn’t see it.” Somehow, the gulags and slums got left off the itinerary. Go figure. The CBC members saw, instead, a land of milk and honey. Fresh air and freedom. Shiny, happy people cared for by a kindly, benevolent leader. As Comrade Fidel himself put it in his official statement on the visit: “Persons who move on the streets in an active and almost always happy manner do not match with the stereotyped images that most of the times are portrayed about Cuba abroad.”
Rep. Cleaver swallowed the Kastro Kool-Aid in one big gulp: “We’ve been led to believe that the Cuban people are not free, and they are repressed by a vicious dictator, and I saw nothing to match what we’ve been told.” Cleaver unabashedly basked in the cult of Castro’s personality: “He’s one of the most amazing human beings I’ve ever met.”
Lord, what tools these lawmakers be.
Accompanying Cleaver were radical left-wing House Democrats Barbara Lee, Laura Richardson, Bobby Rush, Marcia Fudge, Mel Watt, and Mike Honda. Rep. Rush was enraptured by the tyrant’s “keen sense of humor, his sense of history and his basic human qualities.” Lee fawned over the Castros like your neighborhood ‘tweens giggle over the Jonas Brothers. The aging dictator Fidel “looked directly into our eyes,” she delighted. Where was he supposed to look? Into their ears? He “was very engaging and very energetic,” she confided.
Yes, ask the dozens of independent journalists and dissidents jailed over the last six years: Fidel’s a veritable fuzzball.
It’s too bad Castro’s American boot-lickers jetted back home (why is it these fervent admirers of the Communist regime always buy themselves return tickets?) before Easter.
They might have run in to someone with seeing eyes who could have reminded them of the religious oppression that the kindly Castros oversee. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom reported last year that “[r]eligious belief and practice remain under tight governmental control in Cuba…Both registered and unregistered religious groups continue to suffer official interference, harassment, and repression. Political prisoners and human rights and pro-democracy activists continue to be denied the right to worship.” The panel compiled reports of religious leaders “being attacked, beaten, or detained for opposing government actions.”
The Cuban Communist Party requires religious groups to register to obtain official recognition. They must inform the regime “where they will conduct their activities” and obtain official permission to travel. The distribution of Bibles is controlled by the government. Processions and worship services outside tightly-regulated religious buildings are not allowed without permission of the local ruling official of the Communist Party. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is expressly forbidden from proselytizing. Religious schools are banned.
Two years ago, the U.S. international religious freedom panel reported, a Pentecostal preacher and his family were evicted from their home and their church demolished. A month after that, police raided the Santa Teresita Catholic Church in Santiago de Cuba, beat several persons gathered for Mass who participated in a political protest earlier that day, and detained 18 worshipers.
Every Sunday in Havana, a brave group of jailed dissidents’ wives walk to a government-approved Mass at an old Catholic cathedral to pray for their husbands’ freedom. They are known as the Ladies in White. The group has been harassed and bullied by Castro’s henchmen at Easter time for demanding regime change. Their church is named for Saint Rita, the patroness of lost causes. The hopeless sycophants of the Congressional Black Caucus, willfully blind to Castro’s systemic brutality, could certainly use the saint’s intercession.
Right to bear arms isn’t negotiable
Nashville City Paper – April 09, 2009
http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/news.php?viewStory=67397&utm_source=newsletter1&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Apr-E-blasts
It's great that the government has been so kind as to tell us when the Second Amendment applies and when it does not.
The right to bear arms is NOT a negotiable issue. It's a natural right that is guaranteed in the Constitution and it cannot be traded away or regulated under any circumstances (unless of course one is found guilty of using that right to infringe on the rights of another).
There are too many laws on the books to still be considered a free society; the government should repeal all of the useless, repressive, dangerous, anti-freedom, and unconstitutional laws, including those that infringe on the right to bear arms.
Lives are saved when individuals are able to defend themselves whereas lives are lost when individuals are defenseless. And anti-gun laws do nothing to deter criminals, they simply keep innocent citizens from defending themselves.
The idea that one should have to get a permit or permission from the government to be able to defend themselves is absolutely absurd. Rights don't require government approval, they are inherent. Even more absurd is the idea that the government can tell a private property owner whether they can allow firearms on their property or not.
Freedom of choice means that the establishment owner can decide if they want to allow firearms and patrons can decide whether or not they want to give their business to establishments that allow firearms.
The state legislature is definitely on the right course with its recent action, however our government needs to honor the entire Bill of Rights and all other rights within the Natural Law (as opposed to positive law).

"The e-mail Bag"
Down at the Walmart
One day, in line at the company cafeteria, Joe says to Mike behind him, "My elbow hurts like hell. I guess I'd better see a doctor."
"Listen, you don't have to spend that kind of money," Mike replies. "There's a diagnostic computer down at Wal-Mart. Just give it a urine sample and the computer will tell you what's wrong and what to do about it. It takes ten seconds and costs ten dollars . . . A lot cheaper than a doctor .."
So, Joe deposits a urine sample in a small jar and takes it to Wal-Mart. He deposits ten dollars and the computer lights up and asks for the urine sample. He pours the sample into the slot and waits. Ten seconds later, the computer ejects a printout:
"You have tennis elbow... Soak your arm in warm water and avoid heavy activity. It will improve in two weeks.. Thank you for shopping @ Wal-Mart."
That evening, while thinking how amazing this new technology was, Joe began wondering if the computer could be fooled. He mixed some tap water, a stool sample from his dog, urine samples from his wife and daughter, and a sperm sample for good measure.
Joe hurries back to Wal-Mart, eager to check the results. He deposits ten dollars, pours in his concoction, and awaits the results. The computer prints the following:
1. Your tap water is too hard.. Get a water softener (Aisle 9)
2. Your dog has ringworm. Bathe him with anti-fungal shampoo (Aisle 7)
3. Your daughter has a cocaine habit. Get her into rehab.
4. Your wife is pregnant. Twins. They aren't yours. Get a lawyer.
5. If you don't stop playing with yourself, your elbow will never get
better!
Thank you for shopping @ Wal-Mart
You Might Be A Republican If…
1. You believe a woman's choice of whether to have a baby comes before intercourse rather than before birth.
2. You believe a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush - you believe government is poor stewards of your money and can do less to promote social welfare with your money than you can.
3. You believe in spanking versus timeout. Republicans tend to believe in the use of force in foreign policy matters and favor a large powerful military.
4. You want to see more nativity sets in stores at Christmas and less Santa Claus. Republicans tend to favor prayer in school and the allowance of Christian themes at Christmas in public places.
5. You believe the "high priced doctors" are high priced for a reason. Republicans tend to believe in private medical care versus socialized because they believe it fosters competition and increases quality of service.
6. You believe that PETA stands for "People Eating Tastey Animals" and you would like to see PETA come together with the NRA for an annual party.
7. You believe that politically correct and racial profiling are trumped by national security.
