WISDOM

If you support our national security issues, you may love and appreciate the United States of America, our Constitution with its’ freedoms, and our American flag.

If you support and practice our fiscal issues, you may value worldly possessions.

If you support and value our social issues, you may love Judeo-Christian values.

If you support and practice all these values, that is all good; an insignia of “Wisdom” . - Oscar Y. Harward

Reflection – Being Honest in Times of Change

When it comes to change, managers don’t have all the answers, but they tend to get all the questions. Employees, however, don’t always see it that way. Too often, team members think that their leaders DO have the answers and just aren’t sharing them. The perception that bosses are withholding information is more common than you might think. And it’s a perception that must be eliminated if you are going to gain your peoples’ support for change initiatives. How do you eliminate it? With honesty!

Being honest about change boils down to telling your people three things: what you know, what you don’t know, and when you expect to have more information. And that may require some courage on your part. Some leaders don’t want to admit that they lack all the answers. If you’re one of them, get over it! Be a “straight shooter” and you will get your team’s attention.

But will they believe you? That hits on a bigger issue called TRUST. If you and your fellow leaders have built trust by doing what you say you’ll do, and by continually telling the truth, your people will be more likely to believe.

Certainly, some information is confidential and must be restricted to certain eyes and ears only. That’s understood. But occasionally, you may be tempted to withhold non-restricted information – merely because you fear a negative employee reaction. In most cases, that’s a bad strategy. Lack of information causes anxiety – especially if the upcoming change may affect people’s jobs. Here you may need to talk about some downsides of the change. For example, you may need to tell team members to expect a dip in productivity for a few months while everyone gets used to a new process – or that working some extra hours may be necessary. Being up-front about such possible impacts adds credibility to your communi-cation. And it’s how you treat team members as the adults that they are.

Pass it on!

Don't Dance Around a Cactus If you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! (Matt. 5:22). Even though I may not commit the deed, in Jesus’ words, I’ve done wrong.

"An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy; because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation." -- John Marshall

"The collection of taxes which are not absolutely required, which do not beyond reasonable doubt contribute to the public welfare, is only a species of legalized larceny. The wise and correct course to follow in taxation is not to destroy those who have already secured success, but to create conditions under which everyone will have a better chance to be successful." -- President Calvin Coolidge (1873-1933)

"[April 15] is the last day for filing income tax returns -- a day that reminds us that taxpayers pay too much of their earnings to the Federal Government. ... While April 15 serves as a reminder, the people of the United States truly do not need to be reminded. They are victims of inflation, which pushes them into higher tax brackets. They are robbed daily of a better standard of living. They are discouraged from work and investment. ... The choice before us is clear. I strongly feel that the great majority of Americans believe that nothing would better encourage economic growth than leaving more money in the hands of the people who earn it. It's time to stop stripping bare the productive citizens of America and funneling their hard-earned income into the Federal bureaucracy." -- Ronald Reagan

"Economic conservatives have aggressively opposed President Obama's agenda to radically expand government, financed by deficits that run into the trillions. If social conservatives want to protect America's families and social values, they must join with fiscal conservatives to oppose President Obama and reverse America's culture of debt. America was built on individual opportunity. This is the core of the economic conservative agenda. The family unit is the core building block of American society. This is the heart of the social conservative agenda. There is a key overlap here that many conservatives -- and even their leaders -- overlook. Living within your means and managing your finances to avoid long-term debt is part of building strong families, providing for your children and teaching them to provide for themselves. ... Both economic and social conservatives need to grasp the common ground here. Strong families are essential to strong economies, and financial management is a key family value." -- columnist Ken Blackwell

Univ. of Maryland to keep commencement prayer

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 4/13/2009 7:15:00 AM

In a rare move, the president of the University of Maryland chose to go against the vote of the university senate and retain prayer as part of the school's annual commencement ceremonies.

Late last week, a Catholic chaplain at the University of Maryland expressed concerned about the recent development concerning prayer on campus. Father Kyle Ingels explained that chaplains of various faiths take turns giving the commencement prayer at the University of Maryland. The prayer, he shared, typically centers around giving thanks for the students and their achievements and is non-sectarian in nature. But some have found the prayer to be offensive, so last week the university senate voted 42-14 to abolish it altogether.

"The prayer is a very, very inclusive prayer," said Ingels. "It's meant to be accessible to people of all faith traditions and, frankly, I think it's also very accessible even to non-believers. It's really geared more around giving thanks for our graduates and their achievements," he pointed out. "It's certainly not directed at any particular deity that would be offensive to people."

The university senate's recommendation went to the school president. "Dr. Dan Mote, who is the president of the University of Maryland, has the final say on this," said Ingels. "And I received an email just this morning [Thursday, April 9] that Dr. Mote has not yet made a final decision as to how he will act on this."

Late Thursday, Mote overrode the student senate, announcing that the school's commencement ceremonies will continue to include a prayer. In a statement, Mote said, "For many people, a prayer of gratitude and a moment of reflection are an important part of our commencement tradition. A great many people who participate in our ceremonies either embrace this tradition or are willing to allow others who value it to have it as part of the ceremony."

A university spokesman told The Associated Press that the school received numerous calls and emails, with many urging that the invocation continue.

"Fairness Doctrine" and "Hate Speech"

By: Chuck Sproull

To understand the fundamental source of controversies regarding the "Fairness Doctrine" and "Hate Speech," I suggest we look at the Bible which describes the effects that preaching of God's word has had on people throughout history. What people don't seem to realize is that there are two paths of dealing with the painful feelings of conviction. One is to take a sedative of ignorance (closed eyes and ears) that dulls the conscience and hides the pain. Or let the Great Physician (who inspires the preacher) to diagnose the root cause of the emotional pains and prescribe the cure that will heal the heart.

Unfortunately, some people consider the Bible as "hate speech" because they don't understand it. They hate the feeling of accountability to God and they hate the painful feelings of conviction (guilty conscience, fear of future judgment). So they ignore the fact that the bad feelings are in their own hearts and blame the preacher, no matter how kind and loving his attitude. For example, many homosexual activists hatefully and violently object to people telling then how perverted they are and that they can be cured. Their strong reaction is not proof that they are right, but proof that they are wrong and hate the feeling of being wrong.

Also, preaching salvation from sin reduces the number of sinners who spend money at sin-related businesses, and those business owners hate losing their customers and profits (Acts 19:23-26).

But, some people are honest enough with themselves and with God (objective like the Bereans were in Acts 17:10-12), and consider the Bible as God's "love speech" because they feel God's concern for their souls. They are tired of living in bondage and desire freedom from sin, and want a better life. So they go to a church where they can hear the gospel and new birth procedure preached (Acts 2), believe, trust, and joyfully receive deliverance from sinful influences (Acts 19:1-7, Eph 1:13, 2:8). And their hearts are filled with God's love, joy, peace and awareness of His holiness (purity from all worldly lusts that won't exist in eternity). It takes a lot of courage to take that step of "godly sorrow" and repentance, but it leads to a new birth and new path of good feelings of remission (forgiveness and washing away of sins) and regeneration of the soul.

I believe the "Fairness Doctrine" should allow preaching the Gospel and complete new birth procedure, in love, to all mankind, and let them have freedom to believe or not believe. This is what American 1st Amendment "freedom of expression" is all about.

Barack Hussein Obama has only one option.

He MUST immediately FIRE Janet Napolitano!

He cannot allow her to resign. He cannot simply demand that she apologize to the American people. And he most certainly cannot allow her to stay on the job.

She must be DISMISSED!

Let's be perfectly clear, ANY action that falls short of the immediate dismissal of Janet Napolitano is a tacit, but clear, admission from Barack Hussein Obama that he DOES NOT OBJECT to the recently leaked Department of Homeland Security (DHS) security assessment that paints mainstream Americans as reactionary kooks who present a clear danger to the state.

Yes, mainstream Americans... a threat to the state.

Sadly, we're not exaggerating.

But don't take our word for it.

Richard Thompson with the Thomas More Law Center called this DHS security assessment "a diatribe against those who oppose the policies of the Obama administration. It is a declaration of war against the American people and our constitution. It is a prelude to extreme gun control legislation and hate speech laws targeting Christian churches and others who oppose abortion and same sex marriage."

Michael Reagan asked: "Have we really come to this? Has Adolf Hitler's propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels been reborn and recruited by the Obama administration to scare the heck out of the American people with absurdities such as this whacked-out document?"

Michelle Malkin summed it all up: "What and who exactly are President Obama's homeland security officials afraid of these days? If you are a member of an active conservative group that opposes abortion, favors strict immigration enforcement, lobbies to protect Second Amendment rights, protests big government, advocates federalism, or represents veterans who believe in any of the above, the answer is: You."

Janet Napolitano's DHS has crossed the line.

That's why Barack Hussein Obama has only one choice.

He MUST FIRE Napolitano now.

ANYTHING LESS... an apology... or even accepting her resignation... is a tacit admission by Barack Hussein Obama that he SUPPORTS the slanderous classification of decent, hard-working, patriotic Americans as "radical extremists" contained in that DHS security assessment.

And we have two choices... we can either do nothing and allow this outrageous incident to blow-over...

... or we can push the point.

Let's get busy!

"The e-mail Bag"

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.

The little girl said, 'When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah'.

The teacher asked, 'What if Jonah went to hell?'

The little girl replied, 'Then you ask him'.
