Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. -- Samuel Ullman

Giving Without a Whisper But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth (Matt. 6:3). No promise is made to those who give to the poor to be seen of men.

"God is a judge who is perfectly fair." (Psalm 7:11)

"The Patriot Post"

"His integrity was most pure, his justice the most inflexible I have ever known, no motives of interest or consanguinity, of friendship or hatred, being able to bias his decision. He was indeed, in every sense of the words, a wise, a good, and a great man." -- Thomas Jefferson about George Washington

"Bitter as it is to accept the results of the November election, we should have reason for some optimism. For many years now we have preached 'the gospel,' in opposition to the philosophy of so-called liberalism, which was, in truth, a call to collectivism. Now, it is possible we have been persuasive to a greater degree than we had ever realized. Few, if any, Democratic Party candidates in the last election ran as liberals. Listening to them I had the eerie feeling we were hearing reruns of Goldwater speeches. I even thought I heard a few of my own. Bureaucracy was assailed and fiscal responsibility hailed. ... But let's not be so naive as to think we are witnessing a mass conversion to the principles of conservatism. Once sworn into office, the victors reverted to type. In their view, apparently, the ends justified the means." -- Ronald Reagan

"Six years ago I wrote a book called 'Uncle Sam's Plantation.' I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare state and my own transformation out of it. I said in that book that indeed there are two Americas. A poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on capitalism. ... A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor black Americans onto the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mindsets from 'How do I take care of myself?' to 'What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?' Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism created monstrous moral and spiritual problems. The kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others. The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunctional inner city schools, and broken black families. Through God's grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood what freedom meant and how great this country is. I had the privilege of working on welfare reform in 1996, passed by a Republican congress and signed into law by a Democrat president. A few years after enactment, welfare roles were down fifty percent. I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor black communities and replacing it with wealth producing American capitalism. But, incredibly, we are going in the opposite direction. Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like poor America on socialism." -- columnist Star Parker

"It may seem reasonable to argue that women are not designed to bear litters. Or that society should not have to absorb the costs of indulging an unemployed woman's obsession for a 'huge' family. Or that it is wrong to purposely bring 14 fatherless children into the world. Those are all sensible opinions, and a sensible public policy would reflect them. But in the name of autonomy, privacy, and adult self-esteem, our public policies regarding families and reproduction have grown increasingly unmoored from good sense. From the campaign for homosexual marriage to the routine insemination of single women to the legality of abortion on demand, notions that would once have been thought outlandish have steadily been normalized.. Would that further industrial-scale pregnancies like [Nadya] Suleman's could be headed off with a new law or stepped-up regulation. But can law and regulation fill the void left when longstanding taboos and morals are cast aside? When society decides that families and child-rearing can be improvised at will, who gets to say what's 'freakish'?" -- columnist Jeff Jacoby

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is Unfit to Serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services

www.LC.org

President Barack Obama's pick for Secretary of Health and Human Services continues to extend his radical abortion agenda. Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has close ties with late-term abortionist George Tiller, who currently faces multiple criminal charges for late-term abortions. Sebelius honored Tiller and his entire abortion clinic staff at the Governor's mansion in April 2007. Tiller has contributed thousands of dollars to Sebelius and to her PAC, the Bluestem Fund.

While receiving large contributions from Tiller, in 2003 Sebelius vetoed legislation designed to regulate the health and safety of abortion clinics, including Tiller's. The filthy abortion clinics continued to operate until 2005, when the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts revoked the medical license of Krishna Rajanna, a Kansas City abortionist who ran a rat-infested abortion mill.

Take Action Now to Stop Sebelius

First, you need to read our News Release for more details about the Sebelius nomination, then contact your Senators and tell them that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is unfit to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. She is so blinded by her extreme commitment to abortion that she cannot be trusted to act in the best interest of those she should protect.

You can find your Senators at www.senate.gov.

“Chuck Sproull” -- Springville IN, 3/2/09

I am very concerned about this current political dilemma - I don't know of very many politician, Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, who are well-educated, honest and unselfish enough to represent American freedoms and our long-term best interests.

My main concern is for preserving the "path of life" God gave us and the heritage that our Bible-believing Founders gave us (Constitutional Republic with Rights – responsible freedoms).

"LIFE 101" - The 3 major milestones of life are: (1) normal marriage, (2) conception and (3) birth, with 17-21 years of maturity taught by mature parents (core values of self-discipline, honesty, responsibility and ambition, care for well-being of self and others) and education taught by honest teachers; then another generation of (1) normal marriage, (2) conception and (3) birth and maturity / education ... etc.

Each of these milestones is sacred and vitally important for building and maintaining families, culture and civilization. Also these milestones are very vulnerable and in desperate need of our protection. I don't know very many political leaders at the Federal level who understand these basic fundamental facts of life.

They are allowing homosexual activists to use our tax money to divert vulnerable public school students away from Milestone (1), and allowing "Pro-Choice" activists to divert public school students from Milestones (2) and (3). I believe people who don't appreciate the sacredness of these milestones (who act like flaggers and divert people from this path of life)
are profane and uncivilized; they represent the culture of death.

While I'm concerned about our present political leaders, I'm more concerned about the youth who will become the next generation of Congressmen, corporate leaders and workers. I would like to see them get a better education. And it won't be through the current public school system; but by concerned citizens like us contacting state politicians and public school
teachers with information about "Life 101." And it will take a lot of "praying in the Spirit" and intercessory prayer to God for our political leaders.

Airline Announcements

Occasionally, airline attendants make an effort to make the "in-flight safety lecture" and their other announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

From a Southwest Airlines employee.... "There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane..."

Pilot-"Folks, we have reached our cruising altitude now, so I am going to switch the seat belt sign off. Feel free to move about as you wish, but please stay inside the plane till we land...it's a bit cold outside, and if you walk on the wings it affects the flight pattern."

After landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride.

As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington National, a lone voice comes over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!"

After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced: "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as heck everything has shifted."

From a Southwest Airlines employee.... "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised. In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with two small children, decide now which one you love more.

"Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you or your money, more than Southwest Airlines."

"Your seat cushions can be used for flotation and in the event of an emergency water landing, please take them with our compliments."

"As you exit the plane, please make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."

"Last one off the plane must clean it."

From the pilot during his welcome message: "We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry...Unfortunately none of them are on this flight...!

Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day. During the final approach, the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant came on the PA and announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

Another flight Attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."

An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying XYZ airline."

He said that in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally, everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, mind if I ask you a question?"

"Why no, Ma'am," said the pilot, "what is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land or were we shot down?"

After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the Flight Attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt up against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal.

Part of a Flight Attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at US Airways."

Alright, I was on a Southwest flight going into South Padre Island, Texas. As we landed, which was a bad landing, the head flight attendant came on and said, "We're sorry for the rough landing, but it wasn't the pilots fault, the copilots fault, the navigators fault, or any of the stewardesses faults. It was the asphalt." [Credit to Krick]

My friend's dad was taking a trip from John Wayne International in Orange County, California (In LA) to O’Hare, and the pilot was a good ole boy. After taxing up to the runway, the pilot gets on the speaker and says, "Here we go." Next thing he knew, the pilot starting playing "the William Tell Overture." Right where it gets to the high point, the pilot guns that airplane; they go down the runway at most 500 feet and then shot up into the air.

We can tell he cleared the Rocky Mountains with ease. [Credit to Krick]

FEC Admits Obama Got Preferential Mortgage Rate

The Federal Election Commission has closed its file on a complaint alleging that then-Sen. Barack Obama received a below market rate mortgage loan in 2005 for a $1.65million home in Chicago.

But while the FEC ruled that no laws were violated, the agency did confirm that Obama received the discount rate.

And the lending institution has acknowledged that Obama got preferential loan terms due to his position in the Senate.

The complaint was filed in July 2008 by Judicial Watch, a non-profit educational foundation that works to combat government corruption.

It stated that Obama received a home loan of $1.32 million at a rate of 5.625 percent from Northern Trust in Illinois, although the average going rate at the time, according to two different surveys, was between 5.93 and 6 percent.

The Washington Post, which first raised questions about the loan, noted that "Obama paid no origination fee or discount points, as some consumers do to reduce their interest rates."

The Post calculated that the favorable rate would save Obama $300 a month, amounting to at least $108,000 over the life of the 30-year loan.

Judicial Watch contended that these preferential loan rates constituted an illegal corporate campaign contribution to Obama.

Northern Trust Vice President John O’Connell "essentially admitted the company provided Obama preferential loan terms because of his position in the U.S. Senate," according to a statement from Judicial Watch.

O’Connell told the Post: "A person’s occupation and salary are two factors; I would expect those are two things we would take into consideration."

Judicial Watch's complaint also cited a report from the Center for Responsive Politics that Northern Trust employees contributed $71,000 to Obama’s political campaigns since 1990.

The FEC based its decision to exonerate Obama largely on the fact that Northern Trust claims it provided preferential terms to other "similarly situated" but unnamed borrowers in addition to Obama.

The Judicial Watch statement concluded: "For the FEC to base its decision to excuse Obama on the fact that a few other unnamed borrowers also received sweetheart mortgages seems irresponsible . . .

"The fact is, Northern Trust's [vice president] admitted Obama received the loan, in part, based on his position. This is improper and almost certainly constitutes an illegal campaign contribution (or gift). In our view, the FEC’s response is inadequate."

The loan enabled Obama and his wife Michelle to buy a mansion with six bedrooms, four fireplaces, a four-car garage, 5 1/2 baths, wine cellar, music room, library, solarium and granite-floored kitchen.

Daily Rules from God for 2009
1. Wake Up!! Decide to have a good day. "Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up!! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance; but the Lord looks at the heart." I Samuel 16:7

3. Shut Up!! Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking.. "He who guards his lips guards his soul." Proverbs 13:3

4. Stand Up!!... For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything.. "Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good..." Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up!!... To the Lord.
"I can do everything through God who strengthens me." Phillippians 4:13

6. Reach Up!!... For something higher.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, And He will direct your path."
Proverbs 3:5-6

7. Lift Up!!... Your Prayers.
"Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING."
Philippians 4:6

"The e-mail Bag"

Students in an AP Government class were discussing the qualifications to be president of the United States. It was pretty simple. The candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years of age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.

The teacher and the class were just taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating...

"What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by c-section?”

And someday she'll vote!

THE BOTTLE OF WINE

For all of us who are married, were married, wish you were married, or wish you weren't married, this is something to smile about the next time you see a bottle of wine:

Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

'What in bag’ asked the old woman? Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, 'It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.'

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two… Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said: 'Good trade'...
