"There is not a more important and fundamental principle in legislation, than that the ways and means ought always to face the public engagements; that our appropriations should ever go hand in hand with our promises. To say that the United States should be answerable for twenty-five millions of dollars without knowing whether the ways and means can be provided, and without knowing whether those who are to succeed us will think with us on the subject, would be rash and unjustifiable. Sir, in my opinion, it would be hazarding the public faith in a manner contrary to every idea of prudence." -- James Madison
"In 1993, a Department of Education survey found that among college graduates 50 percent of whites and more than 80 percent of blacks couldn't state in writing the argument made in a newspaper column; 56 percent could not calculate the right tip; 57 percent could not figure out how much change they should get back after putting down $3.00 to pay for a 60-cent bowl of soup and a $1.95 sandwich, and over 90 percent could not use a calculator to find the cost of carpeting a room. But not to worry. A 1999 survey taken by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni of seniors at the nation's top 55 liberal-arts colleges and universities found that 98 percent could identify rap artist Snoop Dogg and Beavis and Butt-Head, but only 34 percent knew George Washington was the general at the battle of Yorktown. With limited thinking abilities and knowledge of our heritage, we Americans set ourselves up as easy prey for charlatans, hustlers and quacks." -- George Mason University economics professor Walter E. Statement of Brent Bozell on the Death of Paul Weyrich
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell has
issued the following statement regarding Paul Weyrich's passing:
"Paul Weyrich was a foundational pillar of the modern conservative
movement. He was a leader, a patriot and a friend, with an unwavering
conscience that held fast to traditional values in good times and
bad. Even as Republican leaders vacillated on issues like taxes,
abortion and government spending, Paul never wavered, and when he
admonished those leaders -- even presidents among them -- he spoke
for legions of conservatives across America. He was a man of
principle who not only stood firmly on the ground of conservatism,
but who took giant strides to advance and spread these values in the
public square and in the hearts of countless Americans. The fruits of
Paul's labor will continue to flourish, and the words of his namesake
-- St. Paul of Tarsus -- were never more true: Paul Weyrich fought
the good fight, he finished the course, and he always kept the
faith."

Sixth-Grader Penalized For Mentioning Jesus in His Christmas Paper at School
www.LC.org
An 11-year-old student in Hattiesburg, Mississippi wrote a poem about Christmas but received a deduction for writing about Jesus. His teacher insisted that mentioning Jesus was not allowed and asked him to write a new poem. He turned in the original poem with his parents' approval.
Although the principal overruled the teacher and gave the student a grade of 100, the teacher refused to post any student poems as she had promised. Read our News Release to find out more.
Christmas will become worthless in our Nation if we let our children forget that Jesus is the reason for the season. "Alliance Defense Fund"
Free speech beats censorship
By ALAN SEARS
GUEST COLUMNIST
Things are a little crowded on the third-floor hallway of the Capitol in Olympia. The simple manger scene approved by state officials last year -- under some duress, and in the face of a lawsuit -- is now countered, a few feet away, by a blunt expression of atheism.
That little tribute to hopelessness is sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, and many Christians and conservatives are more riled than Herod when he learned the wise men went home another way.
A lot of that ire has been used to roast Gov. Chris Gregoire. The frankly incensed folk have jammed the Capitol hallway, and a new blizzard of holiday agitators are demanding space for their own odd displays. That resulted in a moratorium on any new ones, apparently because there's no longer any room at the inn.
One wonders if the governor wishes she'd never heard of the Alliance Defense Fund. As her office pointed out in a news release, it was our legal defense of a Christian man's First Amendment right to put a manger scene in the Capitol that highlighted this whole free speech situation in the first place. Now some people wonder if we're sorry we sued.
Of course not. Putting up a manger scene at Christmas is not an effort to end freedom of expression for other religions. ADF gets involved when the government silences Christians while giving free reign to other groups, religious and secular.
As Shakespeare said, "Truth will out." It's that confidence that separates Christians from those who seem compelled by their philosophical insecurities to drive any reverence for God from the public square. So potent is the threat posed by prayers and hymns and manger scenes that every tenet of leftist doctrine apparently must be nurtured in isolation, with Christianity gagged and hidden from sight. Ironically, the Freedom From Religion Foundation is one of the very groups ADF has had to oppose elsewhere because of the atheist group's efforts to censor religious speech.
Christians, though, don't express their faith out of fear that God is incapable of holding his own in the courtroom of public opinion. Speaking the truth is a matter of obeying God and peacefully sharing it for the benefit of any who will listen.
Of course, speaking one's convictions freely is not just a Christian ideal. It's an American one. Though what's happening in that Capitol hallway in Olympia isn't pretty (democracy is rarely pretty), it is still an expression of what's best in our republic.
And if anything needs changing in our republic, it's people's hearts, not the First Amendment. Engaging in free speech to highlight to our neighbor the far-greater beauty and significance of the manger scene beats censorship every time. The false prophets cried out loudly in Elijah's day, but that didn't stop truth from winning out.
And after all, Christ himself came as one small, crying voice in the Bethlehem night. If that was a powerless way to start things, we wouldn't be talking about the manger scene itself -- now -- 2,000 years later -- in Olympia.
So, let the halls of the people be crowded with voices and elbows and ideas. None of them will ever drown out the song of the angels, the excitement of the shepherds or that tender, midnight cry from the heart of God.
Alan Sears is a former federal prosecutor who held various posts in the departments of Justice and Interior during the Reagan administration. He is president and CEO of the Alliance Defense Fund (telladf.org).

Viguerie envisions conservative movement outside GOP
reason Online – Richard Viguerie maintains that conservatives must not be strictly tied to the Republican Party if they are to succeed – and here, provides his views on how the movement can grow 'outside' of the GOP. Viguerie believes conservatives must offer an alternative to the liberals, and be ready to govern when the time comes.

"The email Bag"
Jesus Rescue Me /video
http://www.andiesisle.com:80/JesusRescueMe.hs.html
HOORAY, HOORAY, HOORAY for Paul Harvey. I myself have been grumbling and wondering how a handful of people have been able to take our right to pray in public places away from us. So, agreeing with Paul, I GLADLY will forward this email AGAIN, AGAIN AND AGAIN.
Keep this going around the globe ... Read it and forward every time you receive it. We can't give up on this issue.
Paul Harvey and Prayer
Paul Harvey says:
This is the United States of America , a country founded on Christian principles.
One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.
Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.
God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.
The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want. It is time that the majority rules! It's time we tell them, You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!
God bless us one and all ... Especially those who worship Him , God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our military who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.
Let's make 2008 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions .. And our military forces come home from all the wars.
Keep looking up.
If you agree with this, please pass it on.
If not delete it.
