WISDOM

If you support our national security issues, you may love and appreciate the United States of America, our Constitution with its’ freedoms, and our American flag.

If you support and practice our fiscal issues, you may value worldly possessions.

If you support and value our social issues, you may love Judeo-Christian values.

If you support and practice all these values, that is all good; an insignia of “Wisdom” . - Oscar Y. Harward

VETERANS DAY -- 11 NOVEMBER 2008 - Happy Veterans' Day - Thanks to all for protecting our US Constitutuion, our American Flag, and all of our freedoms from within! God Bless America! - oyh
We encourage all Patriots to set aside time and reflect on the sacrifice of our Patriot veterans and those serving today, and honor them accordingly.

On November 11, 1921, an unknown American soldier from World War I was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, in recognition of WWI veterans and in conjunction with the timing of cessation of hostilities at 11 a.m., November 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). President Warren Harding requested that: "All ... citizens ... indulge in a period of silent thanks to God for these ... valorous lives and of supplication for His Divine mercy ... on our beloved country." Inscribed on the Tomb are the words: "Here lies in honored glory an American soldier know but to God." The day became known as "Armistice Day." In 1954, Congress, wanting to recognize the sacrifice of veterans since WWI, proposed to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day in their honor. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, former Supreme Commander in WWII, signed the legislation.

To honor those veterans who sacrificed all, an Army honor guard from the 3d U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) keeps day and night vigil at Arlington. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, a combined color guard representing all military service branches executes "Present Arms" at the tomb for the laying of a wreath by the president, followed by "Taps."

More than a million Patriots stand ready, or are actively defending our nation today. These men and women were not drafted into service, but volunteered to serve.

"If the people are capable of understanding, seeing and feeling the differences between true and false, right and wrong, virtue and vice, to what better principle can the friends of mankind apply than to the sense of this difference?" -- John Adams

"Well, there's something known as American conservatism, though it does not even call itself that. It's been calling itself 'voting Republican' or 'not liking the New Deal.' But it is a very American approach to life, and it has to do with knowing that the government is not your master, that America is good, that freedom is good and must be defended, and communism is very, very bad." -- William F. Buckley Jr.

"The most dangerous myth is the demagoguery that business can be made to pay a larger share, thus relieving the individual. Politicians preaching this are either deliberately dishonest, or economically illiterate, and either one should scare us. Business doesn't pay taxes, and who better than business to make this message known? Only people pay taxes, and people pay as consumers every tax that is assessed against a business. Begin with the food and fiber raised in the farm, to the ore drilled in a mine, to the oil and gas from out of the ground, whatever it may be---through the processing, through the manufacturing, on out to the retailer's license. If the tax cannot be included in the price of the product, no one along that line can stay in business." -- Ronald Reagan

"A good government implies two things; first, fidelity to the objects of the government; secondly, a knowledge of the means, by which those objects can be best attained." -- Joseph Story

Dear Proud American,

Heroes aren't athletes who set new sports records or Hollywood actors who make daring films or politicians who make bold promises. Heroes are people who place themselves at risk for the benefit of others.

My Heroes wear flak jackets, flight suits and combat boots, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. America enjoys freedom today because our true heroes, the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, are willing to sacrifice their tomorrows for us.

This Veteran's Day, please pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women who wear our nation's uniform. To all our active duty Armed Forces and all our veterans, we at Freedom Alliance salute you and thank you for your service.

I founded Freedom Alliance to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense.

This year alone, Freedom Alliance has touched the lives of thousands of troops and their families, thanks to the generosity of countless Americans who have joined our cause.

Today, the Freedom Alliance Support Our Troops program is a year-round effort to honor and support our military heroes and their families, including:

Our combat-wounded troops, who have fought in the War on Terror and are recuperating in military hospitals.

The families of deployed troops and our brave defenders of freedom who are serving overseas, selflessly defending our great nation, thousands of miles from their families and friends.

As the Christmas Season quickly approaches, Freedom Alliance is "making a list and checking it twice" and getting ready to make the Christmas season special for our servicemembers. Our work depends on YOUR SUPPORT NOW to provide the urgently needed funding for our expanded Support Our Troops program.

Your financial support makes our efforts possible. PLEASE DONATE ONLINE HERE.

This is how your generous contribution NOW will help make a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year in 2009 for our courageous troops:

First, Freedom Alliance provides support for military families through our "Adopt-A-Military-Family" project, which brings Holiday joy to families in need, with Christmas gifts they might not otherwise afford - all wrapped and delivered to their homes before Christmas. Last Christmas, Freedom Alliance requested a Christmas "Wish List" from the children of our Airmen with the 108th Air Refueling Wing at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, who were in Iraq at the time. We then purchased, wrapped and shipped the Christmas gifts to their children on behalf of their parents.

Second, the Freedom Alliance "Gifts from Home" project ships care packages (more than 3 tons so far) to our troops serving overseas.

During the Christmas season, we will again ship holiday "Gifts from Home" boxes to our troops, containing thousands of requested and needed items, including prepaid international calling cards, candy, toiletries, games, non-perishable food, Germ-X hand sanitizer, books, magazines, DVD's, CDs and much more! Every box includes cards and letters from grateful Americans, too.

We just recently received this thank you email from a soldier in Baghdad who received a care package from Freedom Alliance:

"On behalf of everyone in my unit, I would like to thank you for everything that you have sent. We have received 7 boxes over the last 2 days. What you sent was more than generous. We would like to thank all who sent letters, especially the children who wrote to us. To the children, we want to say we are more than happy to serve and protect you."

Third, the Freedom Alliance Support Our Troops program will again provide support for our wounded and recuperating troops in the U.S., including:

-- Christmas parties for military families stationed at bases around the country.

-- Christmas Gift Bags for our servicemen and women.

-- Financial aid and commissary gift cards and national retailer's gift cards.

-- Troop Appreciation Dinners for combat-wounded troops and their families to honor our troops for their service and sacrifice and tell them: America loves you; we thank you for defending us and our families and our country.

Major General Mark wrote to us recently to thank Freedom Alliance and said: "On behalf of our Wounded Warrior Unit, I offer my sincere gratitude to Freedom Alliance for your generosity in hosting a Troop Appreciation Dinner. Your dinner made a tremendous impact on the morale of the Soldiers and their families."

We come to you with an urgent appeal to open your heart with your most generous contribution to Freedom Alliance's Support Our Troops Progam. CLICK HERE!

Your generous contribution today to the Support Our Troops program will enable us to continue honoring our heroes during this Christmas Season and into 2009.

Thank you. God Bless you and your family and God Bless the United States of America.

Semper Fidelis,

LtCol Oliver L. North, USMC (Ret.)
Founder and Honorary Chairman
FREEDOM ALLIANCE

P.S. You may be surprised to know that there are more than 12,000 servicemen and women recuperating in Wounded Warrior Transition Units on bases throughout our country. They are recovering from their injuries and many will return to active duty; others will transition to civilian life. Your contribution TODAY will help us continue our work with servicemembers in these units by sending holiday gift bags, hosting Troop Appreciation Dinners or other events that will honor their service.

Liberty Counsel Files Motion to Intervene to Defend California’s Marriage Amendment

www.LC.org

Today Liberty Counsel is filing a motion to intervene to defend against three lawsuits filed at the California Supreme Court that would undermine marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

The lawsuits were filed last week by same-sex marriage advocates including the ACLU, the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Lambda Legal, asking the Court to overturn the California Marriage Protection Act (Proposition 8) recently passed by 52% of California voters. Those groups are upset because the Act, which states: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California," will overturn the Court's May 15 ruling in favor of same-sex marriage.

Navajo Code Talkers - The code that was never broken

Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima: the Navajo code talkers took part in every assault the U.S. Marines conducted in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945. They served in all Marine divisions, transmitting messages by telephone and radio in their native language—a code that the Japanese never broke.

Why Navajo? -- The idea to use Navajo for secure communications came from Philip Johnston, the son of a missionary to the Navajos and one of the few non-Navajos who spoke their language fluently.

Johnston, reared on the Navajo reservation, was a World War I veteran who knew of the military's search for a code that would withstand all attempts to decipher it. He also knew that Native American languages—notably Choctaw—had been used in World War I to encode messages.

Johnston believed Navajo answered the military requirement for an undecipherable code because Navajo is an unwritten language of extreme complexity. Its syntax and tonal qualities, not to mention dialects, make it unintelligible to anyone without extensive exposure and training. It has no alphabet or symbols, and is spoken only on the Navajo lands of the American Southwest.

Creating a Code -- Early in 1942, Johnston met with Major General Clayton B. Vogel, the commanding general of Amphibious Corps, Pacific Fleet, and his staff to convince them of the Navajo language's value as code. Johnston staged tests under simulated combat conditions, demonstrating that Navajos could encode, transmit, and decode a three-line English message in 20 seconds. Convinced, Vogel recommended to the commandant of the Marine Corps that the Marines recruit 200 Navajos.

In May 1942, the first 29 Navajo recruits attended boot camp. Then, at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California, this first group created the Navajo code. They developed a dictionary and numerous words for military terms. The dictionary and all code words had to be memorized during training. Once a Navajo code talker completed his training, he was sent to a Marine unit deployed in the Pacific theater.

The Navajo Code Talker's Dictionary -- When a Navajo code talker received a message, what he heard was a string of seemingly unrelated Navajo words. The code talker first had to translate each Navajo word into its English

equivalent. Then he used only the first letter of the English equivalent in spelling. Thus, the Navajo words "wol-la-chee" (ant), "be-lasana" (apple) and "tse-nill" (axe) all stood for the letter "a." One way to say the word "Navy" in Navajo code would be "tsah (needle) wol-lachee (ant) ah-keh-di-glini (victor) tsah-ah-dzoh (yucca)."

Not all words had to be spelled out letter by letter. The developers of the original code assigned Navajo words to represent about 450 frequently used military terms that did not exist in the Navajo language. Several examples: "besh-lo" (iron fish) meant "submarine," "dahhe- tih-hi" (hummingbird) meant "fighter plane" and "debeh-li-zine" (black street) meant "squad."

Success in the Pacific -- Praise for their skill, speed and accuracy accrued throughout the war. At Iwo Jima, Major Howard Connor, 5th Marine Division signal officer, declared, "Were it not for the Navajos, the Marines would never have taken Iwo Jima." Connor had six Navajo code talkers working

around the clock during the first two days of the battle. Those six sent and received more than 800 messages, all without error.

The Japanese, who were skilled code breakers, remained baffled by the Navajo language. The Japanese chief of intelligence, Lieutenant General Seizo Arisue, said that while they were able to decipher the codes used by the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps, they never cracked the code used by the Marines.

Department of Defense Honors Navajo Veterans -- Long unrecognized because of the continued value of their language as a security classified

code, the Navajo code talkers of World War II were honored for their contributions to defense on Sept. 17, 1992, at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Thirty-five code talkers, all veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps, attended the dedication of the Navajo code talker exhibit. The exhibit includes a display of photographs, equipment and the original code, along with an explanation of how the code worked. - Author unknown from our NSWC Crane Weekly Bulletin

THE JOB - URINE TEST

I HAVE TO PASS A URINE TEST FOR MY JOB... SO I AGREE 100%.

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.

In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butt, doing drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Something has to change in this country -- and soon!
